UK - Kano is making sure he's being heard loud and clear by using a Sennheiser SKM 935 for his live dates throughout the summer, promoting his forthcoming album, 140 Grime Street.

Fabrice Quirin has been his monitor engineer since last summer and it was his persuading that led to Kano picking up the Sennheiser mic. "I'd used the SKM 935 on a few occasions when I was working for Britannia Row Productions," explains Quirin. "I always had great results with them, especially in monitors.

"I think the 935 works a treat on Kano's vocal," he continues. "He is a bright, loud MC and the high end of the 935 is very soft giving him a smoother sound from the start. The low end is fantastic on these mics. I find it very flattering. Also they can take the volume when set to -30 sensitivity, even though the meter is showing clipping all the way through.&q

USA - From New York City to Indonesia, the Charlie Hall Band has been on a world tour that's brought them to a variety of venues including large outdoor festival stages, high school and college auditoriums, and a number of churches. While there are five members of this Christian rock group visible onstage, Aviom's Personal Monitor Mixing System has become a vital part of the band.

The monitoring system has been a part of the setup since 2005. According to Dustin Ragland, drummer for Charlie Hall, the system's efficient and portable design has made traveling and having to deal with the PA gear less challenging. "Its compactness has been a major plus," he says. "We previously traveled with a digital mixer and a large splitter, and I was in charge of each mix. This burdened us with having to fly with extra equipment and risking it breaking in transit. The AN-16/i-M r

Germany - Last year, the German rental company Veranstaltungstechnik Linke e.K. from Leipzig utilised an Aviom Pro64 digital multicore system in its Classic Open event as a replacement for their analogue multicore system. This year, Aviom will make a repeat performance.

The annual ten-day event, presenting classical and popular artists in the historic city of Leipzig's Market Square, puts heavy demands on both the equipment and the staff. Technical director Peter Linke is managing the event for the fourteenth time this year.

Aviom's Pro64 digital multicore allows for redundant cabling for the critical audio transfer between the stage and the FOH. The 48 input channels on stage are derived from six Yamaha AD8HR preamplifiers, which feed the digital inputs of three Aviom 6416dio Digital I/O Modules.

It is a major focus for the performing arts in the region with facilities that contribute to the growing stature of local companies and provide a venue for local dance schools, as well as tertiary and secondary student productions.

It was decided that they needed a new loudspeaker system to take the venue's bookings and offerings into the next level. The previous system was locally designed and built and had been the in-house system since the venue opened in 1995. When the time came to upgrade, venue sound technician and long-time fan of d&b audiotechnik systems, Ben Thompson contacted Simon Moran of Optim Audio who ultimately insta

Robert Plant's long-time FOH engineer who also handled the Raising Sand tour, Roy Williams agrees, "Two very different artists getting together means very different expectations among the audience as well, but after a few shows, we realised we had a Raising Sand audience. It allowed us to add more dynamics to the mix, going from a whisper to a scream. The audience was recept
