UK - The White Light Zone at PLASA 2010 - hosting the many companies for which White Light is the exclusive UK distributor - featured two products which were winners of the 2010 PLASA Awards for Innovation, and a third that was specially commended by the awards judges.

Launched at the show and an award winner was Coemar's Reflection FullSpectrum, a new design of LED washlight that offers an interchangeable LED light source that directs light from a configuration of LEDs onto a parabolic reflector. This optical design eliminates problems common in other LED fixtures, including visible RGB dots and multi-coloured shadows; it also allows the light source to be moved relative to the reflector, giving a smooth zoom from 18-37°. The fixture is available in Full Spectrum RGB colour-mixing and VariWhite variable white versions.

UK - Goboland GoboSlides made from slide film by Goboland's' Wyatt Enever featured on the award-winning Robert Juliat Aledin demonstrated at PLASA 2010.

"By using slide film, the image quality is heightened to truly photographic proportions," explains Enever. "Blacks are truly black and opaque and the image quality is as sharp with no pixellation and true colour rendition.

"The colours and the substrate are resistant to heat degradation to such an extent that we have not yet managed to ascertain their full life despite extensive testing. All we can say at this stage are that they are extremely long-lasting in Aledin's cool gate! The cost savings for the end user are tremendous, without having to compromise on image quality."

Enever has specialised in the production of high quality projection slides for over 30 years and this service is now available

Germany - Optocore has announced a new software release, which it says will meet one of the most frequently requested control enhancements. With new Multiple Emulation Mode (MEM) software, up to four mixing consoles will be able to control Optocore analogue devices, plus an unlimited number of computers.

"In its simplest form, Multiple Emulation Mode allows our users to have the PC connected for matrixing and system diagnostics, while the consoles control the gain of Optocore's microphone preamps," states Optocore sales and marketing director, Tine Helmle. "In more advanced set-ups multiple consoles can control the gain of networked preamps - even if these are different brands, operating in parallel."

However, the biggest benefit comes when using Optocore's Dual-Mic preamps, where users can have up to four individually-controlled preamps for a single microp

USA - Community Professional Loudspeakers has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its work on Carbon Ring Cone Technology.

This technology offers greater efficiency in loudspeaker design, where a ring of extremely rigid carbon fibre is placed around the outer edge of a specially designed cone, resulting in a structure that is both lighter and stiffer than a conventional cone.

"An ideal loudspeaker cone would be infinitely rigid and have no mass," explains Community founder and president Bruce Howze. "Carbon ring cones are a realistic step toward this ideal."

The increased edge strength also enables the use of a deeply pleated narrow surround. A narrow surround permits a larger cone diameter, providing greater piston area in a given frame size.

"In short, a carbon ring cone is lighter, larger, and stron

UK - FocusTrack, the production lighting documentation system has announced a new purchasing option designed to make FocusTrack even more accessible than before. FocusTrack's new Single Show option enables the purchase of FocusTrack for one single production for a cost of UK£245 - US$375.

This compares to the original Full FocusTrack licence at UK£400 or US$600. That licensing option is still available for those looking to use FocusTrack to document multiple productions. In addition, FocusTrack is available to students for UK£90 or US$140.

"When we first launched FocusTrack, I thought that programmers would be the ones to buy it, since it directly saves them time and effort in tidying up and documenting the shows they work to create," comments FocusTrack's Rob Halliday. "In fact, in most cases programmers have persuaded the show to purchase it.

UK - Shure's PSM 900 - the first to market channel 38 ready in-ear monitors - may only have debuted at the beginning of 2010, but in that short time they have picked up fans in high places. They're already being spec'd for high-profile TV shows - including Later with Jools Holland - and are being used on more and more world tours by artists including The Who, IronMaiden, Phoenix and Passion Pit.

And now the PSM 900 is picking up awards too. PLASA 2010 saw a host of pioneering products entered into the Award for Innovation. The PSM 900 was one of three products commended by the PLASA judges, who remarked: "A combination of technology in this in-ear wireless monitoring system allows the user to save significant time in setting up on-stage mixes. The Judges felt the Cue mode and RF mute were useful features that combined to make a flexible system."

UK - Cooper Controls has released software Version 2.4 of the LightFactory PC based lighting control software. In line with Cooper Controls drive to implement RDM across its entertainment product range, LightFactory now features RDM support, providing automatic patching and fixture setup.

Version 2.4 supports full tracking as an option per show file. For each show, you can now select between a hybrid tracking mode and a full tracking mode, depending on preference. Both modes support the ability to record a cue as cue only, track forward, track back, or block.

As pre-visualisation is done before getting in to a venue the patch setup in the visualiser may not always be the same as what is found on site. To accommodate this, a separate patch can now be set for visualiser output so that you can continue to do blind programming on the visualiser once you are in the venue, without h

UK - At PLASA 2010 the Coemar LED Reflection projector won the coveted prize for innovation, presenting a line of projectors which exploit, for the first time with a LED, the physical properties of reflection of the light.

In the Reflection projectors, the LEDs project the light onto a mirror surface which reflects it to the outside guaranteeing perfect colours and extreme purity throughout the white light range, says the company. It was this concept and the lighting that generated it that impressed the PLASA judges.

Reflection, which will be commercially available from the beginning of November of this year, will therefore represent a new turning point in the event lighting world, yet another of the technological and commercial developments contributing to the success story of Coemar, says the company.
