USA/Australia - ENTTEC has announced the opening of its US sales office. Based in Brooklyn, NY and run by Jeremy Kumin, the sales office will support the growing network of ENTTEC dealers in the US.

Kumin, a veteran lighting designer and programmer, has been using and dealing the ENTTEC products through his company, Tri-Luminary, for some time now. He has worked in theatre, dance, fashion, video, film, special events, and retail store lighting, as well as consulting on new theatres and renovation projects.

ENTTEC reports healthy growth in the last few years. "This US office is just the next step in our growth plan and supporting our sales network in the US is very important to us," says Nicolas Moreau, ENTTEC's founder. UK - Academy Music Group Holdings have confirmed Live Nation, Inc. (Live Nation) and Gaiety Investments (Gaiety) have together completed the acquisition of a 56% interest in Academy Music Holdings Group (AMG) from RJD Partners.

Bob Angus (Metropolis Music) and Simon Moran (SJM Concerts), leading promoters in the UK music industry, have also considerably increased their shareholding in Academy Music Group to forty four percent (44%), under the terms of the deal.

Academy Music Group owns and operates 12 live music venues across the UK. USA - Production Resource Group, LLC, has named Paul Morrill account executive for the company's corporate and special events group. He will work out of PRG's offices in New York City.

Morrill will provide lighting, video, scenic and audio solutions for PRG clients in the northeast. His 20 years of entertainment design and production management experience covers a wide range of applications, including corporate and special events, concert tours, television and film productions, sports entertainment, and permanent installations.

A graduate of the School of the Arts at SUNY Purchase, Morrill holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre design and technology. He comes to PRG from Motion Laboratories Inc. where he was a systems designer for chain hoist control and portable power distribution systems.

UK - Philip L. Edwards, lighting manager at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, has been awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship for 2007. Fellowships are offered to British Citizens resident in the UK and from all walks of life to enable them to acquire knowledge and experience abroad.

Edwards will be spending a month in the USA in the autumn to visit a number of music colleges and universities to observe the way in which student productions - particularly of opera - are supported by design and technical back up.

Edwards has been staff lighting designer and chief electrician at the RNCM for over 30 years and this Fellowship offers an opportunity to observe the way in which American colleges approach the problems of staging opera to train singers and musicians.

Philips has enlarged the MSR product range with Philips MSR Gold 700 FastFit and Philips Hi-Brite 750 FastFit. This rear load lamp base system has been codeveloped with Bender & Wirth. USA - Theatre Projects Consultants, Inc (TPC) has announced that Scott Crossfield has joined its US office. Crossfield has been a theatre consultant for 11 years and is a former principal of the theatre consulting firm Davis Crossfield Associates. At TPC he will specialise in auditorium design and theatre planning, working as a senior consultant in TPC's design department with John Coyne, director of design, and Brian Hall, principal theatre designer.

South America - As an extension to the Twisted Logic tour, Coldplay recently capped off a three week tour in South America. Once again, Laser Design Productions provided laser effects with its new compact 5 watt air cooled white light diode laser system.

The 11-date tour took in four different venues in Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sao Paolo, Brazil and Mexico City, Mexico. According to Mark Ward, Coldplay's production manager, "The South American tour was a huge success. The new technology Laser was a great solution to the production management's concerns of equipment size, weight, power consumption and venue water limitations. Dubai - Following hot on the heels of the Dubai Desert Rock Festival, Shakira's sell-out concert at Dubai Autodrome has provided the curtain raiser for this year's Event 360 expo at PALME Middle East. Event 360 Exhibition Manager Jonathan Gadalla says that when the recent Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and Dubai Jazz Festival are added in, it illustrates just how far the industry in the region has developed.

"The Philharmonic Orchestra shows at the new Festival City recorded a huge turnout, indicating a real interest in the classical music market," he said. "On top of that, 25,000 people attended the Jazz Festival. USA - Preceding all NASCAR race telecasts on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN on ABC is an opportunity to see TV lighting history. ESPN's NASCAR Countdown studio show will originate from "the most technologically advanced travelling studio ever used in sports television". The mobile pit studio which will travel to 26 NASCAR tracks this season, has been entirely outfitted with state-of-the-art LED lighting. "ESPN and ESPN on ABC's coverage of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series will be the most technologically advanced programming in the history of televised motorsports," according to Jed Drake, senior vice president and executive producer for ESPN.

USA - Directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa opened in theatres last december and was released to DVD in March. This new Rocky movie features eight 8' X 33' Main Light Soft-LED dynamic drapes above the ring in the fight scenes. The draperies and content control system were supplied by Main Light and programmed by Giovanni S. Ciranni for the shoot, which was held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

Production designer Franco-Giacomo Carbone said, "I would say that the Soft-LED visually brought the emblematic boxing ring and the Rocky series squarely into the 21st century."

The Netherlands - A design team led by the Dutch architects Mecanoo has won the international competition to design the National Kaohsiung Performing Arts Centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

A key team member of the design team, Louis Janssen, from Dutch theatre consulting office, theateradvies bv, was responsible for the design of the up-to-date theatre installations and logistics. The jury was particularly pleased with the interpretation of the programme and design of stage equipment.

The plans includes a concert hall with 2.300 seats, equipped with a flexible stage and all necessary hoisting facilities. A 2,000-seat opera house has a stage floor made up of five double deck elevators that can be moved from -11m to + 2.5m. The surface of these elevators, making up the stage floor, can be tilted and all are equipped with traps.

UK - Lighting designer Dave Davey, working with PRG Europe, lit The Galaxy British Book Awards, the publishing industry's equivalent of the BAFTAs or the Oscars. Calling itself "the glitziest event in the UK book trade industry's calendar", the awards ceremony celebrates the nation's favourite books, authors and publishers. The awards are nicknamed the Nibbies because of the fountain pen nib shaped award.

The ceremony and dinner, which was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on 28 March, presented a total of 12 awards, including a lifetime achievement award for John Grisham. The Nibbies are the only awards which take votes both from the public and the Academy of the British Book Industry, made up of publishers, booksellers, past winners and other industry representatives.

Finland - Over 450 Robe moving lights will be utilised in a spectacular lighting design for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki which is being created by LD Mikki Kunttu.

This follows on from the successful 2005 ESC production in Kiev, which featured 350 Robe fixtures. Once again, the show's technical production manager is Ola Melzig, and the production company is Spectra from Sweden. Lighting equipment for the event, staged in Helsinki's 12,000 capacity Hartwall Areena is being supplied by locally based Eastway Oy, and the Robe units will be delivered directly to the show from the Czech Republic.
