The discotheque ‘Treffpunkt’ (‘Meeting Place’) in the Swabian city of Balingen in southern Germany is certainly one of the largest after-hours attractions in the region. With several dance floors, bars and restaurants as well as a large outdoor patio area, it offers a myriad of entertainment possibilities for well into the night. The newest addition to the ‘Treffpunkt’ is the ‘Loop,’ a disco with three bars and a circular dance floor. Originally an American bar, this part of the spacious disco was completely renovated and converted into an independent discotheque in autumn of 2001, with the lighting and sound installation carried out by FP Veranstaltungstechnik.

For sound reinforcement, they chose HK Audio. Company owner Frank Pfister commented: "Our experience installing HK Audio has always been good, and we also have several different HK Audio cabinets in our rental program. The systems deliver excellent sound and are absolutely hassle-free, which in the case of a disco installation is almost more important."

The Loop disco is equipped with a combination of six direct-radiating LP 118 subwoofers and four VT 112 II F mid/high units. The entire system is powered by VX 2400 amplifiers and controlled by two Digital Field Controllers. "With their forward-looking peak, thermo and overshoot limiters, the DFCs offer the best possible protection against overload. At the same time, the system has very large reserves, so the limiter LEDs will only light up occasionally on extremely loud evenings," says Pfister. After a thorough nine months’ trial run, Treffpunkt’s owners are so impressed with the Loop sound system that they are already planning to convert the other dance floors to HK Audio as well.
