USA - From the first serve to the final championship match, tennis fans were able to enjoy coverage worldwide from the 2016 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre in Flushing Meadows, NY. While the commentators and analysts, as well as interview subjects, were discussing every volley and ace they were lit by the television lighting design firm Ferri Lighting Design & Associates (FLDA), led by sr. designer and founder, Bruce Ferri.

Since 1997 Ferri has been lighting the commentators at the US Open and continually advancing the technology used at the event. This year FLDA also brought their expertise to re-lighting the USTA's permanent Press Room at the tennis centre.

For the press interview room, FLDA brought in a completely new lighting system to address the current needs of the USTA. "The room had a pipe with tungsten Fresnels for the interview area,"

USA - People who go to a moe. concert thinking they know what to expect, have probably never been to a moe. concert before. The quintet from upstate New York epitomizes the freewheeling improvisational unpredictability of jam band music, as it reels off 10-minute riffs with casual ease and seamlessly moves from song to song with nary a break in between. No two moe. performances are ever alike, which is why so many dedicated fans (aka "moe.rons") have been to 30...40...50... or more of the group's concerts.

A show by band that's original enough to incorporate a xylophone into its tunes requires a lightshow that's unique, varied and very flexible. This is exactly what Justin Casey of Pulse Lighting has been serving up on the current US moe. tour with help from 12 Chauvet Professional Rogue R1 FX-B fixtures, supplied by Main Light Industries.

Sweden - An Allen & Heath's GLD-80 digital mixing system has been installed in the chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm in Sweden replacing the incumbent analogue mixer.

Denmark - The Danish T°nder Festival has been one of the most important folk music events since the mid-1970s. The festival's 42nd edition will likely go down as one of the most successful in history: In summer temperatures, more than 11,000 music fans from across Europe enjoyed shows by the folk and Americana music scene's elite. These included acts such as The Avett Brothers, Jason Isbell, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Rosanne Cash with John Leventhal.

Also contributing to the event's success were the stands from Gravity. Ashley Cooke, production manager and responsible for T°nder Festival's lighting and sound production, relied on the Adam Hall Group's new brand for the first time - and was very enthusiastic about the outcome: "We are very satisfied with the Gravity stands," he says.

"They are very light, but nonetheless stable. The musicians thought they were g

UK - The BBC's double-header weekend of Proms In The Park and BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park (Festival In a Day) could have been renamed Four Seasons in a Day, given the extreme climatic changes (and fitting name of the Proms headline act).

The extreme high winds and driving rain had blighted the opening day, headlined by Frankie Valli's band, who were joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra and a line-up including ABC, All Saints, Rick Astley, The Feeling and others. As the following day made way for bright sunshine, Status Quo and Madness got the evening party going and were perfect curtain-raisers for the headline act, Elton John.

But such changeable weather conditions in a noise sensitive environment is precisely the scenario that Martin Audio's award-winning MLA Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA), and its advanced DISPLAY software, was designed for.

Lighting designer Bart Burnham shared the vision for the production came from a collaboration between tour manager Charlie Sanderson, production manager Billy Kline and stage manager Jimmy Davis. On the downstage truss, Martin MAC Auras provided a wash for the band and audience warmers during the introduction and acoustic numbers while GLP Impression X4s were used as band specials and as a wash look for Hank's acoustic sets.

USA - In 2008, when the Iowa River flooded and destroyed Hancher Auditorium and 12 other buildings at the University of Iowa, the loss to the community was far greater than the physical loss of those structures.

Hancher Auditorium was one of the most popular venues for touring groups in the region, and the flood forced the student and traveling groups that normally used the venue to move into nearby facilities.

But this week, with the grand opening of the new Hancher Auditorium, the University of Iowa and the people of Iowa City once again have a magnetic cultural centre to call their own.

Only months after the flood, Theatre Projects began working with the university to determine how they would recover, rebuild, and move forward - not only regarding the 40-plus-year-old Hancher Auditorium, but also the Voxman School of Music and Clapp Recital Hall, which were attached
