USA - The Georgia World Congress Centre in downtown Atlanta is the site for the semi-annual Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show, a three-day professional beauty industry event that is the largest multicultural/multi-textural tradeshow in the United States.

More than 30,000 beauty professionals were in attendance for education, workshops and entertainment. The show culminated with the televised, legendary hair battle on the main stage.

Locally based AEE Productions provided an Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) KF line array sound reinforcement system that was the driving force behind the show's entertainment and fashion events, including the televised competition.

"We were on site for full production except for the broadcast trucks," explains Tracy Towne, production manager for AEE. "We designed and set up the EAW system to ensure the audience received the full impact

France - French artist Jeanne Added has found the perfect complement for her powerful, harmonic voice - a DPA d:facto Vocal Microphone that allows her to convey emotion without changing the timbre of her singing. Jeanne, who last year released her debut solo album Be Sensational, was introduced to the d:facto by her sound engineer, Gilles Olivesi.

"I was looking for a very flat microphone that wouldn't try to enhance anything in her voice," Olivesi explains. "French engineer Malik Malki told me about the d:facto, so we tried it with Jeanne in the studio and compared it to a number of other vocal mics. We all agreed that it was the right one because it keeps her voice sounding natural. It also works for the FOH mix and the monitors - in my opinion vocalists sing better when they can hear themselves clearly without stretching the monitor's EQ."

Jeanne's tour is also a

Europe - Heralding the New Year 2017, ALC NetworX has announced that German telephone hybrids, audio codecs specialist AVT Audio Video Technologies has joined the RAVENNA community to contribute their expertise and provide yet another building block in the ever-growing landscape of RAVENNA/AES67-enabled products.

AVT are experts in the field of telephone hybrids or talk show systems, which are technologies that convert an incoming phone call into an audio signal that is suitable for a studio environment. Naturally, Voice-over-IP technology is playing an increasingly important part in this crucial domain. Another field of expertise for AVT concerns audio codecs that are needed for high quality audio transmissions over different networks. Once again, the transmission standard is now AoIP rather than ISDN or 2-Mbit/s that were used in the past. It is therefore a logical step for

Puerto Rico - Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam closed 2016 on a high and very emotional note, bringing down the house for four electrifying sold-out Cangris concerts at the famed Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. The two Reggaeton icons had a lot to celebrate, having collectively garnered six nominations for Univision's upcoming Premios Lo Nuestro awards.

The Cangris concerts were about much more than superstar performances, however; they were also a spirited celebration of trailblazing music and the reconciliation of two gifted friends who joined forces in the '90s, then spent more than a decade apart, before their recent reconciliation. Reflecting the passion of these events were two sweeping and transformative lightshows by Daddy Yankee's LD David Ayala, and Juan David Guerrero, the designer for Nicky Jam.

Ireland - Award-winning Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James has played one of the biggest shows of his young life, at the 3 Arena in Dublin. It was also one of the biggest indoor shows of the year for Irish rental company Sound Design, using its new Nexo STM Series modular line array systems for the first time on an arena-sized live music event.

This was in fact the first deployment of Sound Design's newly-purchased STM system with M28 omnipurpose cabinets, purchased after a successful pilot event in Croke Park stadium, a multimedia spectacular for the 1916/2016 commemoration, and the RTE Centenary show in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin.

With 12,000 people attending Dublin's 3 Arena, high production values were in place for the Gavin James show. At FOH was well-known live sound engineer Marc Carolan, supported by Eddie O'Brien, one of his regular techs who is also sy

Singapore - Lighting designer Adrian Tan from Light Project is using Robe's CycBar 15 fixtures to light the cyc on W!LD RICE's award winning Monkey Goes West production, which is playing a limited holiday season run at the Drama Centre Theatre in Singapore.

The production first premiered in 2014 and Adrian recalls that in the initial creative discussions they didn't want it to be "just another pantomime", so instead looked at more unconventional ways of lighting the cyc, which was a fundamental to creating 'another world' onstage to which the audience could relate.

Additional creative considerations included the need for a strong Asian culture influenced primary saturated colour scheme to run throughout the performance, and the fact that the overhead lighting rig also needed to be flexible due to the venue's expedient stage and overhead rigging space.

USA - The Historic Masonic Theatre is an architectural treasure nestled in the Allegheny Mountains in Virginia. Since opening in 1905, the historic venue has boasted eclectic billings over the last century, including Roy Rogers (and of course Trigger), Gene Autry, Count Basie, and even political blunderbuss William Jennings Bryan ("What has been will be again"). Now a performing arts, education, and community facility, a recent renovation includes the new, redesigned Intelligent Marquee Systems (IMS Mk2) LED marquee/festoon lighting system.

Specified by Theatrical Consultants Collaborative (TCC) of North Carolina and installed by Productions Unlimited, Inc. of South Carolina, IMS V12 "Filament" lamps were the perfect way to achieve programmable marquee lighting with the warm, golden look of traditional incandescent lamps, plus the benefits of individual DMX control and LED tec

Italy - Claypaky is part of the impressive lighting plot that characterizes the 2016 edition of X-Factor Italy. The tenth edition of the popular talent show, which started in the UK, is richer and more dazzling than ever. Work on it started a good five months before the recordings since the lights and scenic effects are essential components for the success of the show.

Lighting director Massimo Pascucci explained that X-Factor Italy is not just a television show, but is also a real "live event filmed with cameras, where the artists are free to roam the stage and even put on their shows in the corridors and theatre galleries." Other components typical of live events include the large number of LED walls that accompany the performances and the use of purpose-built scenery. The lighting equipment and filming covers every corner of the theatre, including a dolly hang

Canada - Allen & Heath's dLive S Class and ME mixing systems have been installed in Southview Alliance Church, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, as part of a major audio refit.

The new, combined FOH and monitor system was designed, supplied and installed by Sapphire Sound, which specified a dLive S5000 Surface with a DM48 MixRack for FOH, and a ME personal monitoring system for the musicians on stage, starting with the drummer in the initial roll out.

"dLive has many advantages," explains Ben Burrell at Sapphire Sound. "The high channel count and number of output busses was a major factor for this project. On top of that, the seamless integration with the ME-1 system, plus the dLive OneMix and MixPad apps for remote control, made the system particularly attractive.

"Additionally, the ease of use for volunteers was a big selling feature. Finally, the number of network expans

USA - Founded in 1987, 12Stone Church has grown to include eight campuses throughout Georgia serving the communities in Gwinnett, Hall, and Barrow counties. In their most recent expansion, the congregation completed a full renovation of a large retail location in Snellville, GA, and in doing so they needed to create a full worship environment.

Working with Cason Cleveland Productions, 12Stone Church had a specific vision for the LED video elements in the new auditorium, so together they enlisted the assistance of Nashville-based PixelFLEX and installed FLEXLite NXG 2.6mm LED video technology.

"For our new Snellville campus, we were moving into what used to be a Best Buy retail location, so we really needed to create all of the production elements from scratch for our worship environment," began Dustin Whitt, production ministry lead.

"When looking specifically at the L

USA - 2017 started with a bang as Georgian rockers Widespread Panic rang in the New Year with an epic three set blowout at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.

Lighting designer Paul Hoffman utilized a lighting package provided by Bandit Lites for the two night, sold-out event, where the first evening featured selections from Widespread Panic's albums played in chronological order, while the second evening boasted guest appearances by Love Sponge String Quartet, MegaBlasters Horns and McCrary Sisters.

With the band's annual Tunes for Tots benefit concert taking place on 29 December in Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, and the arena not being available for a production day prior to the first show at the arena, Hoffman used the framework of the existing fall touring system with many additions.

"There's always a time crunch on these end-of-year shows," said Hoffman. "Lots

USA - Point Source Audio (PSA) an audio equipment manufacturer specializing in the development of miniature microphones and headsets has completed its move into a new corporate headquarters in Petaluma, California. The new office will be just a mile away from the previous location, but is 50 percent larger and offers a more efficient layout to support the company's administrative and operational functions as well as product development, sales and marketing, and assembly staff.

The move comes as a result of the company's "phenomenal growth" attributed to the adoption of its miniature performance microphones and audio headsets. In 2016, the company celebrated its 10th year in business and also received a granted patent for design of the world's first modular in-ear audio headset known as the CM-i3.

It currently has another innovation, the customizable fitted Embrace Micropho

Germany - The first Landesjazzfestival Bayern (jazz festival Bavaria) took place in Regensburg from 21-23 October, 2016. The event, which received prominent support - the patron was Bavaria's Premier Horst Seehofer - presented a top-class and diverse programme on all three festival days. Among the highlights were the shows of Grammy winners Ron Carter and John Scofield as well as the concert of Dusko Goykovich.

During their celebrated performances, the jazz legends shared the stage with equipment newcomers - the new Gravity stands, an Adam Hall Group brand. Once again the accessories showed off their qualities: easy handling, stability and an appealing design.

Winni Freisleben, head of the board of the Jazzclub Regensburg and co-initiator of the first Landesjazzfestival Bayern, noted, "We received positive feedback regarding the Gravity stands from several musicians. The s

UK - Talking with lighting control operator Adam Power before the Manchester show of Bring Me the Horizon's recent tour, their biggest to date, he described the show lighting as "intense". Over 180 lighting fixtures hung on numerous trusses and were built into a technology-laden set.

Adam reports, "James and Louis created a wide vista which used the full width of the arenas, we even put five lights each side of the stage in unallocated seating to stretch the design even wider. The band were passionate about having an intense show with lots of strobing and really big looks, James and Louis did a great job of keeping it classy and refined with so much going on."

James Scott explained, "The initial brief given to us by the band was that they wanted a big rock show, something that made a huge statement and filled as much of the arena space as possible. One word which kept bein

USA - Enchanted: Forest of Light in Descanso Gardens in LA, California, was a beautiful display of nature and light intertwining to create an experience that visitors of all ages could appreciate. This walk-through art piece was installed for a limited time during the holiday season from 25 November 2016 to January 8, 2017.

Lighting designer, Chris Medvitz, chose to install SGM's G-Spot fixtures in order to create the drama and saturated colour quality he desired for this project. Medvitz praised the G-spot for its reliability and durability.

Enchanted: Forest of Light is a complete outdoor installation and keeping this in mind, it was important to find a fixture that could handle all of the California weather elements. SGM is known for its IP65 and IP66-rated products, so for Medvitz the G-Spot was an obvious choice:

"This is the first robust, full-featured moving hea

Bosnia & Herzegovina - If you look closely, you'll see one of each of Audient's 8-channel mic preamps ASP800 and ASP880 on YouTube videos from Jam With Friends, a weekly music session recorded live, set up by four skilled friends in Bosnia & Herzegovina and broadcast on YouTube.

"We are basically group of volunteers who've got together with the desire to discover all the music genres, sub-genres and subcultures wandering through the city of Mostar," says Gabrijel Prusina, one of the founding four, and owner of Studio Groove, which provided the gear for the recordings.

"I was recommended Audient's ASP880 some time ago as I needed more channels. So I read up about it, then watched a lot of reviews and blind shootouts against much more expensive preamps, and I bought one," Prusina explains. "One day I compared it with my existing preamp - and the ASP880 sounded way bet

Tajikistan - Located in Dushanbe, the capital and largest city in Tajikistan, the newly built Loft nightclub opened its doors for visitors at the end of 2016. Modern technology and a friendly vibe have combined to create an attractive space for local and international artists, musicians and DJs.

The owners' desire to create the best nightclub in the city - in terms of sound and lighting - led to Moscow-based design and system integration company, Muztorg.PRO, being awarded the contract. It had been the success of the luxurious Versal Club, also located in Dushanbe and equipped with Martin Audio systems, that had made such a positive impression on the future LOFT owners - and so the choice of a Martin Audio loudspeaker system for the new venue became obvious.

The main speaker system includes five Martin Audio W8LM Mini Line Array elements, plus a W8LMD Downfill on each side
