USA - AXYS Scope loudspeakers recently made their Broadway debut on Elf the Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The musical is based on the 2003 Warner Brothers movie and is the tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole.

The show boasts some of the best creative in the business. The book is by Thomas Meehan, who won the 2003 Tony Award for co-writing the book for Hairspray. The musical side of the show is take care of by the Matthew Sklar, who received a Tony Award nomination (Best Original Score) and a Drama Desk nomination (Outstanding Music) for his work on The Wedding Singer, and the lyrics are provided by Chad Beguelin, who wrote the lyrics and co-book writer for The Wedding Singer.

UK - The new PixelSmart from PixelRange has been snapped up for use on Saturday night prime time entertainment show and charity fundraiser, Let's Dance for Comic Relief - the show where famous faces perform some of the world's most well-known dance routines.

Lighting designer Steve Nolan and associate Tim Routledge had previously debuted the PixelSmart on the Royal Variety Performance. Nolan comments, "We loved them on Royal Variety and they're really good point sources because you can generate different shapes with them. It just gives you a little more versatility and movement in the background."

USA - The American DJ Group has reached a settlement with Wal-Mart Stores and DBL Distributing, a division of Ingram Micro, in a trademark infringement lawsuit regarding its American Audio brand. The suit alleged that the two aforementioned companies and three other firms had wrongfully used the 'American Audio' trademark in advertising, distributing and promoting audio products that were not made by or affiliated with either American DJ or American Audio.

In a further development, the audio products' manufacturer, V2Go Technology Corporation, one of the five defendants named in the original lawsuit, has filed for bankruptcy.

Wal-Mart Stores and DBL Distributing were included in the lawsuit because, by distributing and selling products bearing the federally registered American Audio trademark, they were wrongfully trading on the goodwill that American DJ had built up for the b

UK - BDP won the Lighting for Leisure Category at this year's Lighting Design Awards at the London Hilton on 10 March. BDP's lighting designers beat off stiff competition to take the top prize for The Point, a 1,000 seat events venue at Lancashire County Cricket Club.

The judges commented that the project was not only beautifully detailed and realised, but offered the client a flexible facility that will generate revenue in the future.

BDP provided exterior lighting to the façade, concourse area and stand, as well as internal lighting to the front of house areas including entrance, event space, bars, circulation areas and facilities.The lighting showcases the bold and strong graphic identity for the new events venue, and the re-born cricket ground as a whole.

USA - In January 2011, the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California completed a 2-year, $19m renovation that included a total upgrade of its audio system. System designer Bowen Technovation turned to BSS Audio Soundweb London signal processors and networking products to serve as the backbone of the museum's large-scale audio system.

The Computer History Museum is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, an appropriate location for a facility dedicated to the preservation and celebration of computing history. USA - Intelix LLC, US manufacturer of audio/video equipment and software, has relocated to a larger, modern facility. Effective immediately, Intelix's new address is: 8001 Terrace Ave, Suite 201, Middleton, WI 53562.

"Our previous location stymied growth," says Maggie Ellison, Intelix human relations manager. "We continue to add staff and we anticipate growing our employee base by at least 15% in the next six months. Our new facility will allow for growth for years to come."

USA - Situated in the Pico Rivera section of Los Angeles, the El Rodeo Nightclub is a popular social gathering spot and restaurant that recently completed a substantial facility upgrade to better accommodate the ever-increasing weekend crowds. Live entertainment is a major part of the club's and the new sound system draws from the Aero Series 2 catalogue of D.A.S. Audio.

Los Angeles-based International House of Music was contracted to handle the El Rodeo's new sound system installation as well as the club's upgraded lighting facilities. Oscar Naranjo, Jr., company manager and system designer for International House of Music's commercial AV design/build division, discussed the challenges of the project and his decision to deploy D.A.S. Poland - The European Football Championships are to be held in Poland and Ukraine in 2012. Alongside an extensive programme of investment in the building and renovation of venues for the Championships, a number of other stadiums are undergoing major overhauls. The latest example is the Józef Pilsudski Stadium in Cracow, the home of KS Cracovia.

Originally built in 1906, the stadium has been comprehensively renovated and partially reconstructed under the supervision of Spanish architects Estudio Lamela.

Decision-makers at the stadium opted for the installation of an extensive Dynacord audio system in which all the components are networked. USA - As part of a $17m renovation, San Antonio's Lila Cockrell Theatre (LCT) has augmented its lighting inventory with three Robert Juliat Cyrano HMI 2500W followspots purchased from dealer Texas Scenic.

LCT is located in the Convention Facilities' complex in the shadow of the Tower of the Americas, a permanent legacy of the 1968 San Antonio World's Fair. The theatre offers more than 2,300 seats on three levels; its main stage spans 113x60ft and boasts an orchestra pit, integrated performance audio system, AV infrastructure for cameras and projectors, a fully-networked stage and architectural lighting system and a complement of manually-operated counterweight sets with motorized stage electrics.

Belgium - After decades of misuse, looting and squatters the Villa Empain in Brussels has been restored to its former glory. A 5m Euro, two year renovation project turned it into a museum for intercultural dialogue. The management and architects chose APart for their sound system.

In early 2007 the villa (protected as a historical monument) was bought by the Boghossian Foundation who wanted to use it as a museum for intercultural dialogue. The foundation asked Francis Metzger, an architect with experience in renovating famous art deco buildings to lead the restoration. It was the start of an extensive two year renovation project. Metzger and electric installer TS P&O asked Brussels integrator and APart dealer Strobbe to take care of AV in the renovation project.

Belarus - Robe moving lights and DigitalSpots have been installed at the new Minsk Arena in the Belarus capital. It is part of a complex of buildings that includes the flagship 15,000 seat ice hockey arena, one of the largest in Europe, which is also utilised as a concert hall.

This is the first installation for the DigitalSpot 7000DT series in Belarus. The fixtures were specified by Robe's Belarus distributor Art Ramos - also a technical design & build specialist - to the installers as part of a government contract. Main contractor Belcultproject was responsible for supplying the products to the venue.
