UAE - To support its strategy of expansion in the Middle East market, Proel Group organised the first Proel Middle East Conference at the Novotel World Trade Centre in Dubai, a three-day event devoted to Middle Eastern markets. The conference also hosted professionals from the Northern African countries, such as Morocco and Egypt.

Fabrizio Sorbi, president of Proel Group, took part in the event together with Massimo Signor, Proel's managing director, and Simon Sinclair, business development director. Sorbi stressed how strategically important these emerging markets are for Proel. He went on to explain what the Group's strengths are - the R&D department, logistics, and the investments in the new management system that will "lead to an even greater general efficiency in the future".

The event hosted several specific product sessions, divided by line and brand, during w

Italy - First opened to the public in 1928, Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in Bergamo has a storied history as home to the Atalanta and Albinoleffe football teams. Sound reinforcement was, until recently, a sore subject for attendees of the ageing stadium's various events. As part of planned refurbishments, that issue has now been rectified - thanks to an ambitious new sound system drawn from the catalogue of Valencia, Spain-based D.A.S. Audio.

Sound Services by Angelo Pelliccioli was contracted to renovate the sound system at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia. Luciano Biamino, head of D.A.S. Audio's Italian distributor Kennell and who collaborates with Sound Services and D.A.S. Audio on a variety of projects, commented on the challenges of the installation.

"Since most of this large stadium lacks a roof," Biamino explained, "we had limited structural support for t

France - After missing last year's event, lighting designer Richard Knight returned to the Wella International Trend Vision Award 2010 (ITVA), held this year at Paris's Halle Freyssinet, to make his contribution to a dazzling spectacular.

Drawing on around 80 GLP impression (impression 90 and impression 120 RZ zoom) LED moving heads, the lighting designer, who specialises in theatrical and corporate events such as this, had a mission-critical role for the fixtures in each location.

Zone 2 became the location for the morning and afternoon catwalk shows and Zone 1 was used for the evening gala dinner and award presentations. These two areas were linked by a central 'hub', in the form of a 'live' TV studio, where interviews took place throughout the day, as well as four 'trend zone' exhibition spaces.

Europe - Back in the summer, Danish lighting designer Christian Bonde prepared to scale up the Bullet For My Valentine lighting production he had successfully taken round a US club tour, in preparation for European arenas.

Knowing the vagaries of heavy travelling and short load in times, he needed a powerful floor rig, which required no more than a one man set up. And the impressions fit the bill.

The Download Festival in the UK marked the start of the upscaling process - from an inventory of 10 original impression RGB moving heads to 44 RZ 120 Zooms - in anticipation of the Welsh rockers' current tour. The RZ 120s and 700W profile discharge moving light became the mainstays of the new rig - with the lighting support for the European leg coming from Neg Earth.

The complement of floor lights was extended, with 20 GLP impressions now deployed along with strobes and blinders, w

UK - A.C. Special Projects were approached by London's Southbank Centre to specify and supply a high power outdoor gobo projector to provide a visually impactful logo above the entrance to the Hayward Gallery's trendy Concrete cafe and late night bar, which takes its name from the building's striking 1960s architecture.

Based on the available throw distance to achieve a 6m wide projection of the logo, the company specified a Griven GoboStorm IP65 rated outdoor gobo projector with a powerful 575W metal halide lamp and high precision zoom optics to achieve the required image size, brightness level and clarity.

A.C. Special Projects were also contracted to specify and supply outdoor LED lighting to highlight an area under a railway bridge leading from the Royal Festival Hall to a restaurant and other visitor attractions along the South Bank area.

UK - St Paul's Church in the Hertfordshire town of St Albans is one of the largest in the county, accommodating over 1000 people at capacity. The church's traditional design has been successfully modernised in terms of its comfortable interior furnishings and its technology, having recently been equipped with an all-new Electro-Voice sound system for its worship services and concerts.

Having supplied an extensive multimedia system in 2008, installation company Creative Digital Solutions was commissioned to design and fit a new multi-speaker live system, integrating it with the original AV equipment.

The system design drew on the different characteristics of several EV products, notably the Vertical Beam Shaping of the Xi2123A/106F which is appropriate for the flown central speaker.

CDS used an extensive EASE model of the Church's interior to determine that an Xi2123A/106F sh

Italy - Italian fashion designer Valentino SpA recently commissioned a Lighthouse screen installation in Milan.

The 5 x 2 panel (6.4m x 0.97m) P10 i/o SMD screen has been installed in the company's Milan showroom. While not open to the public, the venue is where all the company's Italian resellers can see the latest products, so it has to present the garments in the best possible way.

The screen was installed by Lighthouse technicians, along with a TV One scaler and LIP-HDI processor, in a space specifically designed around the P10 panel dimensions.

Content is created and edited by a collaboration of video companies Lab8 and Eltec, both based close to Milan. When approved by Valentino, videos are uploaded via the internet to the company showrooms in Milan, Rome, Paris and New York, as well as retail outlets across the globe, maintaining a consistent company presence.

Italy / Ukraine - Coemar lighting fixtures have been employed on the X-Factor talent show, both in Italy where the fourth edition has just finished and in the Ukraine where the programme is currently achieving high audience figures.

In Italy, where the programme has been highly successful since 2008, Coemar supplied 70 Infinity Wash XL to light the audience, judges and stage perimeter. The 94 ParLite LEDs were chosen for their high light output and limited consumption.

In the Ukraine, where the programme is in its first edition, lighting designer Ievgen Tsybinogin has chosen the power of the Infinity Wash XL, the Infinity Spot M and the Testa 2500 and Testa 1200. The products were supplied by Alight, a Ukrainian rental company which in turn bought them from Lightek, the official local Coemar representative.

Italy - L'eredità (the inheritance) is a successful quiz show on Italian television channel RAI 1, in which competitors challenge each other in various games. Contestants who make a certain number of mistakes are eliminated, and consequently their opponents win the right to their part of the 'inheritance'.

The director of photography Vittorino Piccolo comments: "The set is a sort of circular 'canister' consisting of strips of simple white plastic that house LED strips. They may also be illuminated by the studio lights. Since the show consists of six different games on a single set, the lights have to be used to try to differentiate as much as possible. My task is precisely to characterise the different sections of the game with various colour effects."

The lights include Alpha Beam 700s, Alpha Profile 1200s, Alpha Wash 1200s, Alpha Spot 575s, CP Color MHs and

UK / Netherlands - In the wake of the PLASA 2010 announcement of the merger between Dutch trussing and structural specialist Prolyte and UK-based Litestructures, the newly-formed Prolyte Group has announced the first steps towards integration of the two companies - a restructured and revitalised Customer Service department and the implementation of brand management teams.

The move coincides with the launch of a new corporate identity. Designed to reflect the recent changes within the organisation, the new look is a combination of existing brands and logos that have been updated for a fresher, more modern feel.

The Customer Services department is the first area to benefit from the reorganisation. Focusing mainly on quotations and order handling, Customer Services will be the first point of contact for customer enquiries. Supporting the CS department will be the newly-created br

UK - The British Music Experience at London's The O2 is a regular venue for Sennheiser UK's education programme. Taking things in a slightly different direction, but still with an educational flavour, the company hosted the first of its Sennheiser Sessions artist workshops with British four-piece punk band, Enter Shikari.

British Music Experience's commercial manager Michael Casper played host, with the band answering questions about song writing, performing live, the valuable support Sennheiser has given them and their latest run of shows supporting American rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, including one that night at The O2 arena. The floor was then opened up to the lucky group of 60 fans who had won the chance to get up close and personal with their favourite band, with the added bonus that the fan that asked the best question won a pair of Sennheiser CX 200 headphones.

The installation marks the third audio retrofit of an MSG-owned venue by Clair Brothers, which has also installed JBL VerTec line arrays in New York's Radio City Music Hall and the Chicago Theatre.

Part of a $16m full venue renovation, Clair Brothers relied on JBL's new DPDA-equipped powered line array elements, featuring AES digital audio, BSS Omnidrive HD signal processing, and HiQnet compatibility. A total of 16 JBL VerTec VT4888DP-DA powered midsize line array elements with DrivePack technology are included in left-right arrays of eight per side, with three VT4880A fullsize arrayable subwoofers per side.

The venue has been divided into five audio zones: ground floor lounge, ground floor alfresco area, glazed pod, upstairs lounge, and upstairs outdoor area. Each zone is capable of having its own audio source and volume level, regardless of the settings of the other zones.

"The location and method of installation for the speakers changed quite a few times on this job," remarked Adam D

USA - Conan, the new late-night talk, music and entertainment show hosted by Conan O'Brien showcases O'Brien's versatility as a performer as well as his eclectic tastes in musical guest artists.

Two Studer Vista 9 digital consoles have been specifically installed for the programme at the Warner Bros Studio Facilities' Stage 15, in Burbank, California. Studer Vista 9 consoles are used in both the Music Mix control room and in the Production Audio mix control room, both of which were designed and equipped by Sound Design Corporation.

Germany - At the end of November, a glitzy party took place at the Schwarzwaldhalle in Karlsruhe, to celebrate financial service provider, Ascent AG's 20th anniversary. This was masterminded by Christian Moran, head of production for event technology provider, Charly's Checkpoint - who had the opportunity to specify GLP's new Volkslicht with zoom capability.

The multi-purpose facility, which was constructed in 1953, is an impressive size - but mainly it is the architecture that characterises it, and makes it suitable for corporate events such as this.

"On the one hand, we were fighting the difficult acoustic in the hall and on the other, there were few possibilities to install heavy equipment on the aesthetic, gently curved ceiling," recounted Moran. Nevertheless, the Dettenheim-based company made the best of it, and for the stage and set design, they used mainly a g

UK - K-Array's Redline Series was thoroughly put to the test during November. Featuring X-Factor winner Leona Lewis and British/Irish pop band, The Wanted, the launch of the XBox 360 Kinect was held at the Natural History Museum's temporary ice rink.

"RG Jones Sound Engineering has been supplying the system for the Natural History ice rink for a number of years now. It requires a complex mix of voice announcements and playback with the ability to override all zones for emergency announcements," says Matt Sussex, in charge of the event for RG Jones. "The tricky part is working to very strict level restrictions. The compact, efficient, portable Redline system was a great solution for the specific requirements of the day."

China - New Robe moving-lights have been installed into Studio 6 of the Qingdao TV Station, which broadcasts six regional channels throughout the Shangdong area.

The new fixtures are part of a recent lighting upgrade, and were specified by Studio 6's lighting designer Liu Zheng Mao and his team, and supplied via Robe's Chinese distributor, Leafun (formally known as Leifull).

The 10 ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 10 ColorWash 1200E ATs and four ColorWash 575 ATs were chosen for their functionality and reliability. It's a multi-purpose studio, hosting a wide variety of shows, so all lighting has to be as flexible as possible to cater for the different requirements of anything from a documentary to a music show.

The Studio had originally invested in Robe back in 2005 when they bought some ColorSpots. These are still going strong and have been worked extremely hard over that time.

Egypt - UK-based projection specialists The Projection Studio were commissioned by Cairo production company PromoSign to create a large format projection show for the Opening of the 16th Cairo Arab Media Awards staged at Media City in Cairo.

The Awards were aired live across 18 countries. The 13-minute piece was part of a visual spectacular including fireworks, that was projected onto a full-size scenic replica of the old Cairo Stock Exchange building (also known as the 'Bourse') which is part of one of the current film sets being utilised at the studio.

Ashton became involved in the project via Egyptian producer Ashraf Haridy, who was aware of The Projection Studio's previous work and recommended him to the show producers, who wanted to up the production values at this year's Awards.

Once everything was confirmed, they had just two weeks to create and compile the artwork fo

The Netherlands - Lighthouse LED screens are at the centre of a new trend in the Netherlands for art installations, which is taking the concept of large exterior screens and making them interactive.

With the majority of large exterior screens used for advertising and public information, there is a sense of disconnection - an almost Big Brother-esque omnipresence that the viewer has no influence over. These new installations are trying to redress that balance, making the viewer an integral part of the screen's output.

One such installation is Between You & Me, located outside Factorium, a new school of dance and music in Tilburg. Designed by visual artists Martin and Inge Riebeek, a 5 x 4 panel Lighthouse Pi16 screen was supplied and installed by Hengelo-based Hecla Professional Audio & Video Systems.

UK - Black Light's hire team has helped a video production company achieve a dark and compelling look for its latest piece of work - a video for up-coming Scottish band Kid Adrift.

The video, which was made by Edinburgh-based Cagoule Productions, is for the band's latest single A4 in Ecstasy. It features two boxers battling it out in a down-at-heel ring.

Black Light supplied all the lighting for the video production. "The Lighting designer has worked closely with us in the past and knew he could rely on us to deliver the right equipment in a quick and efficient manner, at the high standard expected by video production companies," says Black Light's head of events, Stephen Reid. "The video is well worth a look, as it is lit with real imagination and shows that you can be creative using a relatively simple approach."

Dubai - The Meydan Racecourse is capable of accommodating over 60,000 spectators at a time. It boasts a major audio-installation: more than 4,500 Electro-Voice loudspeakers, the fully redundant CobraNet infrastructure using the N8000 NetMax Digital Matrix Controllers and the latest CPS multi-channel amps.

headed by Dave McMahon and his team - lead by Meydan Project Manager Zahid Abbas Mir - had a hard task ahead. Dave McMahon of Dubai-based service provider Almoe AV Systems commented, "We had an enormous area to cover, extending from the track itself to the lower and main grandstands - fully 120m from front to back - and the associated delay posed a considerable challenge.

"We're talking more than 4,500 ceiling speakers across the entire facility, all of which are actively monitored. On race day, the network is designed to operate as one massive super system, all co
