USA - Since opening its doors in June of 1965, Wichita's Metropolitan Baptist Church has been a vital part of this bustling community, offering a range of services, classes and other events. In 1983 the church added the Jesse Vardaman Fellowship Hall, a multipurpose venue that has seen near-constant use over the years. But with a very rudimentary 70 volt distributed sound system and budget grade ceiling speakers, the hall has long struggled with intelligibility issues.

As Dennis Craven of Wichita-based Vivid Pro Systems explains, the solution came in the form of Community Professional's new Entasys high-performance line array column systems. "We've worked with line columns in the past, and Community's new Entasys immediately came to mind for this application," says Craven. "The system needed to be versatile enough to handle spoken word, movie night, light praise a

Iceland - Near the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland, stands Laugardalsvöllur, the National Soccer Stadium. It recently received a major upgrade, with complete renovations to the main seating area and the construction of new office facilities.

The stadium now accommodates 15,000 people. Subsequently, the Football Association of Iceland requested an offer for a complete PA sound system for the stadium's west side with the option of later expansion for the remaining areas. To complete this upgrade, the association hired local pro audio and lighting firm EB Kerfi ehf, and immediately plans were under way for the design of a full sound system for the entire stadium, which was to include loudspeakers from EAW.

EB Kerfi chose weather-protected versions of EAW's MK5300 Series small-format installation system loudspeakers with rotatable horns. The design of the system's speaker setup was a

Renkus-Heinz president Harro Heinz thanked all attendees for their contribution to the company's very successful year in 2008, and expressed cautious optimism about 2009.

UK - XL Video supplied full video production - screen, cameras, PPU, Catalyst media servers and crew for the concluding date of Elbow's recent UK tour at Wembley Arena, London.

This was project managed for XL by Des Fallon, with live direction by Jon Shrimpton. Fallon comments, "From my first meeting with management and production, Elbow have been a pleasure to work with. The show was immense, a very special evening."

Shrimpton worked in close collaboration with Mark Thomas from Soup Collective who designed and produced all the playback visuals, and Hugh Davies Webb, who was brought in by XL to run the Catalyst media server that was at the hub of the live video show control.

"The visual cues were all very precise and we had no physical rehearsals, so the this was a major challenge" recalls Shrimpton. The three of them had several meetings to establish, ru

USA - With a congregation of 2,000 members and growing, ClearView Baptist Church recently completed construction of a second chapel on its 50-acre suburban Nashville campus. Housed in a separate building, the new 450-seat chapel will accommodate overflow from Sunday worship services.

When choosing a lighting system for the new chapel that would deliver both quality and flexibility, the church and its longtime A/V designer/installer Springtree Media Group turned to Elation Professional.

Elation and Springtree had previously helped ClearView solve a challenging issue during a renovation to the church's original worship centre. ClearView had wanted to upgrade its lighting for video production, but was operating on very limited electrical capacity. Church officials didn't want to go to the expense of installing a new transformer, so Peter Vaque of Springtree came up with the solut

Warner, who is the lighting designer, director and programmer for the tour, tapped the grandMA to control LED lighting for a previous Pussycat Dolls' tour and moving lights for Grammy Award-winner Queen Latifah's Trav'lin Light tour.

For the first time, on the Doll Domination Tour, the grandMA is controlling an all-Robe digital spot complement. "I wanted to go with newer technology," Warner says. "The whole rig is almost all Robe. It's a new digital moving spot technology combined with LED-based wash lights that delivers a very high-tech design. "Pods on trusses are packed with fixtures that make it look like there are more lights than we really use," he explains. "So I can

UK - Deptford-based ARC Sound has extended its long relationship with JBL loudspeakers by adding 12 VerTec VT 4887A enclosures to the company's rental fleet. Established by James Dougill back in 2000, initially as a rehearsal facility, ARC Sound has constantly sought to keep its equipment at the cutting edge.

"We've always got on really well with both our point source Venue units and the fixed curvature VRX line array, which for its size and weight performs tremendously," says Downer. "But as a company, we were being asked to tender on bigger events, which clearly required a more appropriate solution."

He continues: "We considered several other options, but as most of our existing fleet is JBL, it made very practical sense to choose a product which we could easily integrate with our older stock. We're really comfortable with the product, It's very plea
