The Netherlands - Barco is adding a new unit to its HDX range of three-chip DLP projectors. The HDX-W18 is the latest addition to the successful HDX family, sharing the on-board image processing, compact design, easy servicing, and preview mode features with its W12 and W14 cousins, but clocking in at 17,500 lumens. South Africa - A Christie MicroTiles display and Christie Spyder image processing provided a design highlight at the recent IMN-hosted South African Capital Markets Summit at the Westin Cape Town Hotel's Conference Centre.

Taking place for the ninth year, the two-day event set out to examine the recovery and growth of the South African securitisation and debt capital markets communities - and featured a number of keynote speakers.

Christie partners, Gearhouse South Africa, serviced the event's design/ production company, Eventworx, with an imaginative MicroTiles solution, designed to wow the 500 invitees, from various financial institutions.

Gearhouse were early adopters of MicroTiles, and with 100 modules in their inventory were comfortably able to design an 11 x 8 landscape display, set in the foyer of the Conference Centre, to allow content to be screened in 16:9 format.

Designed specifically to allow collaborative workgroups to "instantly and reliably communicate privately over LAN, WAN and Internet applications on Windows or Mac computers", the IP-based intercom software now provides an even greater range of features and options.

The Concert software is suitable for all production applications as it enables users to quickly and easily contact other team members who are shown to be 'available' for a call or text messaging. With the latest upgrade, other user statuses are also revealed - 'already on a call', 'currently in production' or 'monitoring an audio feed.' UK - Digital Projection (DP) announced at ISE 2012 the appointment of Ciaran Doran as head of international sales & marketing. In this role, Doran will be tasked with developing the company's business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, raising DP's profile and growing market share in these strategically important markets, says the company.

UK - XL Video supplied a camera and PPU system, media server control, projection and scenic Barco MiStrip LED elements to the UK leg of Kasabian's recent successful Velociraptor! world tour.

Video director Paul 'Eggy' Eggerton worked closely with engineer Wolfgang 'Wolfie' Schram to produce an original IMAG look for the band, which was rear projected onto two 20 x 11ft side screens, each fed by a single Barco HD20 FLM machine.

The set design was acollaboration between lighting designer Nick Gray and the band's creative director Aitor Throp. It included a striking 20m wide by 10m high structural arch which was raked forward, and rigged with 134 x 1.5m lengths of Barco MiStrip LED.

Eggerton enjoyed his third tour with the band. He used five Sony DXCD 50 cameras with TX7 backs - two at FOH with long lenses, two in the pit and one hand-held onstage - all busy between them

Malaysia - Green Hippo are continuing their push into the Asian market with the appointment of a new technical sales manager for the region.

Last year saw the North London based company directing their focus on Asia, with both sales director James Heron and head of sales Samantha Bailey travelling extensively in this territory. These efforts culminated in the signing of new distributors for various countries, including Hong Kong and Thailand as well as a specially arranged training week in London for all their Asian partners in the summer 2011.

China - Barco was the primary visual equipment provider for CCTV's 2012 Lunar New Year Gala. Both the stage art design and the audio-visual technology were praised in reviews of this biggest TV show for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.

The premier stage application was a huge LED screen, comprising 1,326 Barco 6 mm ILite 6 BK LED boxes and covering 273 m2. The show also used eight super-bright, 20,000 lumens FLM HD20 projectors. HD images were shot on a second supporting screen, coordinating with the programmes. Working in close cooperation with audio-video technology companies such as Raysee, CTV Technology, Garwin, HPCL, Really AV, Huelead and Bright, Barco was able to deliver a fully integrated installation for the show.

UK - Big Screen specialists PSCo Rental has launched the new NanoFlex screen to the UK rental market. The screens are third generation technology, offering 6mm flexible LED solution which enables organisers to flex and suspend these 112" screens with very little infrastructure required.

The NanoFlex screen is designed in the US by NanoLumens and PSCo is the only rental company with them available for use at events in the UK. The screen is designed for quick and easy installation, which makes it perfect for rental applications where a big screen suspended at height is required.

UK - Lighting Technology Projects (LTP), under its current service provider role to Philips, has installed a high-resolution 'vidiwall' to the Westfield Stratford City urban retail mall in London, UK.

Adjacent to the Olympic Park, the outdoor LED-based screen, which is used for in-house advertising, features at the main entrance of the new shopping centre and is one of the first digital displays to seen by customers upon arrival.

Energy-efficient and offering optimum image quality, the screen provides an instant connection with consumers, and is anticipated to see more than seven million passersby during the 2012 Olympic Games.

The project follows on from previous collaborations between LTP and Philips, which have included reinstating and illuminating video cylinders at the O2 Arena and the current ceiling mediascape at the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

UK - Creative agency Knifedge has created animated visuals for four songs featured in Snow Patrol's spectacular 2012 world tour, including one of the band's biggest hits, Chasing Cars.

Knifedge is one of a number of creative agencies commissioned to work on the tour, working closely alongside Snow Patrol's lighting designer Davy Sherwin.

The staging for the new tour features a striking new look and feel, created by Davy Sherwin, with initial concept input from Knifedge. Inspired by the band's snowflake logo, six floating LED screens hang above the stage, each shaped like single crystals from a snowflake.

Animated graphics and live video footage of both the band and audience members are projected onto these floating 'pods', which also move in three dimensions to create different atmospheres for individual songs. A giant LED screen behind the stage completes the look.

The Netherlands - Paradigm AV has reported "an overwhelmingly positive response" to its product showcase at this month's ISE 2012 in Amsterdam. In what was seen as a radical departure for the company, the show marked the launch of Paradigm's new European distribution arrangement with Scalable Display Technologies and provided a first large-scale presence for its newly-formed subsidiary, Simulation Displays.

The stand highlight was the Paradigm Display Wall, a unified display product range based around Scalable Display Technologies' products for automatic alignment, blending, warping and colour calibration of projected images, while the eye-catching gesture-controlled Cube from GestureTek, provided an effective means of beckoning visitors into the environment.

UK - TV chef Gordon Ramsay's latest venture is Bread Street Kitchen in London's East End. Drawing inspiration from its industrial surroundings, the 250-seat gourmet temple is aesthetically reminiscent of a warehouse.

Since Gordon Ramsay conceives of a meal as a feast for all the senses, he attaches serious importance to the sound distribution systems installed in his restaurants.
