UK - Hawthorn celebrated turning 30 in style on Saturday 4 February, when more than 500 clients, suppliers and colleagues partied the night away at the company’s Leicestershire headquarters.
The full service technical production company drew on its expertise to transform its 105,000ft warehouse space into a glamorous party venue where guests enjoyed a night of fun, food and drink.
Guests were kept well entertained throughout the evening with live entertainment, as well as fun including karaoke, retro games and roving entertainers. Delicious food was served by Smart Hospitality and guests were treated to a menu of special themed cocktails kindly donated by Ambersphere.

South Africa - DWR Distribution has appointed Lee Baird as marketing coordinator. No stranger to the industry, Lee worked alongside her partner, Rob Young, at Theatre and Studio for six years, during which time she visited various theatres in the country and maintained the day-to-day running of the office. “Working with Rob was the best part of the job,” smiles Lee. “And it’s great to work alongside him once again at DWR.”

UK - Star Events won Best Brand Activation at the Festival Supplier Awards (FSA) last week for its Samsung Hypercube structure.
Conceived by Samsung, developed by Iris Worldwide and built almost entirely from Star parts, Hypercube housed the first immersive virtual reality (VR) music video, which toured festival sites last summer.
Presenting the award, judges highlighted the combination of ‘solid production values and high end technology’, which they said, ‘delivered a unique solution’.

UK - Drapes, LED, video and special effects specialist S+H Technical celebrated its tenth season supporting the BBC's popular hit series Strictly Come Dancing with drapes, starcloth and a variety of other 'soft goods' and effects.

S+H was again working with BAFTA Award winning set and scenic designer Patrick Doherty - who is a regular client - helping realise his vision for a spectacular magical environment which he creates for the series, featuring some well-known-and-loved classic 'ballroom' visual elements peppered with a touch of the contemporary.

This season, Ilfracombe, Devon based S+H supplied around 2000 Pea-Lights for the regular weekly Strictly episodes which were broadcast from Entree Studios.

These Pea-Light strings were integrated into the set walls of Patrick's design, together with around 1000sq.m of sumptuous red velvet starcloth from S+H's stock

UK - London's Southbank Centre has been transformed into a wintry Nordic landscape this festive season, complete with a giant Norwegian tree, Scandinavian decorations, and an installation of more than 50 floating Christmas trees, rigged by Unusual Rigging.

Ailve McCormack, site design project manager for Winter Festival, explained: "The balcony installation is one part of the overall site design which was done by Hemingway Designs. It's not something we have done before so we needed to know that the companies we worked with were some of the best in the business. Unusual Rigging was recommended to me by a colleague. They got involved after the initial idea had been formed, but before we had figured out how exactly we wanted to hang the trees from the balcony. Their knowledge and know-how was just what we needed at this stage."

Working with Thomasville's S&L Integrated on a complete audio, lighting and LED video renovation, the church wanted to make sure that while the technical systems received an update, the traditional aesthetics of the sanctuary were not affected. UK - Star Events will supply stages, support structures and seating to the third edition of Spirit of Rock Productions' Ramblin' Man Fair next July, at Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent. The contract comes on the back of a successful sophomore year for the 15,000-capacity event.

Star has committed to provide Ramblin' Man 2017 with a 20m VerTech Main Stage, two mobile stages, a VT show deck stage, that will sit inside a temporary structure, and a mobile seating unit.

Belgium - Entertainment engineering specialists WIcreations has supplied several automation elements to help Belgian superstar rockers Clouseau ramp-up the drama and fun for their biennial end-of-year spectacular shows at the 20,000 capacity Antwerp Sportpaleis venue.

The band is in the middle of playing four sold-out shows that started in December and conclude in January - following an extensive theatre tour ongoing through most of the year to support their innovative and popular Clouseau Danst (Clouseau Dances) album.

WIcreations is collaborating closely with the show design team from Painting with Light to create some wow factors for the Sportpaleis shows.

In fact, the band is doing just the opposite, as they wrapped up their four-month European leg of The Getaway Tour and began their North American leg in San Antonio last week. With probably the largest kinetic light installation in touring history, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have lit the path for a new concert-goer experience.

Rewind to 1 September, 2016, the Chili Peppers opened The Getaway Tour in Budapest, Hungary. To gain the accreditation TSG had to demonstrate its dedication and commitment to meeting customers' needs, operating efficient management processes and delivering consistent, good quality products and services.

ISO consultancy QMS oversaw an analysis of the TSG business model, followed by a two-stage formal assessment before awarding the company with ISO 9001 certification.

USA - Total Structures closed 2016, its 25th year of business in the United States, with the debut of its latest award winning products. Halo and Sky-net, fall protection solutions for Total's ground support tower systems and outdoor roof grids, received the Best Debuting Rigging & Staging Product award from Live Design during LDI 2016.

Both products are designed to work with new systems as well as existing roof systems.

Halo provides vertical fall protection and wire rope ladder mounts for 18 inch and 20.5 inch ground support tower systems. USA - When ESTA learned it would be losing a long-term source of revenue, the association faced the loss of almost a third of its income in 2017. The immediate impact of this is to endanger the survival of ESTA's ANSI-accredited Technical Standards Program (TSP). The ramifications of this would be enormous to the entertainment technology industry. Upon hearing of the situation, Ford Sellers, senior product manager at Chauvet Lighting, commented, "The work that is done by the TSP is indispensable. It is central to our industry...In fact, it is what makes us an industry, instead of just a bunch of individual projects."
