Estonia - The multi-functional Paide Kultuurikeskus, located in the middle of Estonia, opened to the public in December 1987. In recent years, this cultural centre has undergone significant improvements to its facilities to maintain its status as a national landmark, all the while retaining its original and distinctive 1980s design features. The latest development phase incorporated the installation of a series of ETC ColorSource PAR luminaires.

The venue is home to a number of flexible spaces, designed to accommodate a variety of cultural and entertainment events. The 529-seat main hall serves as a cinema, as well as a space for theatrical and musical performances. Saint Lucia - David 'Gurn' Kaniski had his rig for the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival main stage all set up when he was given the bad news - 15 of the ÉPIX Strip Tours at the heart of his design were blocking a path that (unbeknownst to the LD) had been designated for equipment load-ins. "They told me I had to remove the 15 strips," said Kaniski. "My response was, 'You got to be kidding!' Running the strips to follow the stage's dome was at the heart of my design."

It was then that Kaniski discovered a valuable feature about the pixel mappable LED strips from Chauvet Professional. ""The ÉPIX has this cool slide adjustment that allowed me to hang the strip off centre in order to clear the door way," he said. "Using this feature, I could keep the 15 strips in place and preserve my look without obstructing that pathway."

UK - A.C. Special Projects Ltd. (ACSP) has supplied and installed a bespoke hexagonal-shaped Traxon RGB LED lighting and control system, to provide decorative effects for the newly refurbished Buckingham Arcade in central London.

In line with the client brief, ACSP proposed that Traxon 40PXL & 20PXL colour-changing, diffused LED Media Tubes were the best solution, given their IP66 / IP67 rating and robust design. It makes them ideal for withstanding the outdoor elements, particularly in a public environment.

"The designers wanted to implement a fluid movement of light through the arcade, in a hexagonal arrangement to create a sense of interest and interactivity. Traxon's Media Tube

Singapore / UK - The following global locations all have something in common and when the list is considered it is safe to say it's not the weather. The Esplanade, Singapore and The Everyman Theatre in Liverpool both offer their fair share of cultural enrichment but those in attendance in south-east Asia are unlikely to have battled their way through anything like a cold, damp Merseyside night before taking their seat. York's Theatre Royal and Salford University are white and red rose rivals respectively and certainly would recognise thick fog and drizzle but Istanbul's Zorlu Centre is used to an altogether different climate. The world famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London might enjoy a mad-dog English summer or two but that doesn't compare to the heat at The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts...

The outer truss circle included cross sections to hang broadcast lighting, and seven supporting legs to ensure clear sightlines of the celeb

South Africa - Lighting designer Tim Dunn from Gearhouse South Africa has seen technology swiftly evolve during his career.

"I worked on some of the first moving lights, and we all evolved from bashing dents out of parcans to become electronic technicians," Tim says. "Now we are in the networking age and we all need to become network technicians, (not a job that I ever wanted on my CV). The new switcher from MA is quite something; literally plug and play, and keeps the focus on the job at hand."

Tim was asked to be the lighting designer at the South African Film Awards (SAFTAs) held recently. He worked on a grandMA2 full size. "The show required a fast network," said Tim. "So Nick Britz of DWR brought along a MA Switch.

"I'm always a bit nervous about networks, I've had network problems in the past and feeling helpless with show time fast approaching is no-ones idea of
