UK - An Audient ASP8024-HE has been installed in The Live Room, a community support project in Birkenhead, northwest England, providing a venue for musicians wanting to reconnect with their passion. The arrival of the console followed a recommendation - and generous donation - from Pete Townshend.
The brainchild of public-spirited Iain Ogilvie, The Live Room offers a lifeline for musicians who are dealing with issues of addiction, isolation and poverty. “Our goal is to support the mental health of participants through team involvement, and signposting to professional agencies where necessary. In doing so, we help them overcome challenges through the creative process.”
The concept of The Live Room came to Iain whilst he was working at the Keyboard Repair Centre in The Wirral. “I noticed an increasing number of older, retired musicians asking for repairs to their o

Japan - Ryōgoku Kokugikan, also known as Ryōgoku Sumo Hall or Kokugikan Arena, is the only building dedicated to Sumo, Japan’s national sport, and has been home to many historic initiatives.
The origins of sumo began some 2000 years ago but in its modern form it only took hold around 300 years ago. Once established in Japan, it passed down from generation to generation.
Such is its status, there is no-one in Japan who has not heard of the Tokyo-based Ryōgoku Kokugikan. Sumo wrestlers practice here daily, dreaming of winning the Gift Cup, and since sumo is Japan’s national sport, His Majesty The Emperor sometimes comes to watch, and has seats reserved for him.
But Ryōgoku Kokugikan also hosts various other events during periods when sumo is not being held, including wrestling, concerts and corporate events.

Slovenia - Ljubljana University’s Academy of Music faculty has consolidated itself in one ‘new’ central location in the city instead of occupying two different premises as the result of a complete renovation project at the Kazina Palace building.

The academy’s main rehearsal and performance room - Betetova Hall - has been fitted with a new lighting rig including Robe T1 Profile and LEDBeam 350 moving lights, together with T11 Profiles and ParFect 150s. All of these were delivered to the project by Ljubljana-based MK Light Sound.
The fixtures were chosen for their relative quietness as well as the quality of light, as it i

Having redecorated and re-lit the rehearsal spaces and added a fully-equipped daytime meeting space to their offer, the Audio Works team also took the decision to upgrade their audio systems.

Germany - The Pirate Kindergarten in the city of Bergisch Gladbach places a strong emphasis on the part played by music in children’s development. Music is a constant theme during activities at the day care centre and when the Kindergarten’s team agreed that its ageing sound system could no longer meet their ambitions, they engaged audio experts Starpoint to supply a replacement. As well as delivering high quality audio throughout the Kindergarten, the new system needed to be easy to install and operate.
Bastian Sauer of Starpoint recommended an Optimal Audio solution: “We listened to all the requirements and quickly concluded that Optimal Audio offered the best solution for this application. Working with the customer we specified the system and assisted them with programming the Zone unit, leaving them to carry out the installation work themselves without any problem

Canon for communications at St Asaph’s Cathedral, Canon John Lister, commented: “We started a long time before the final spec was agreed, Richard was prepared to come down here and look at our needs to get to know the cathedral better and he made it very straightforward.”
“The initial part of this process was in-depth consultati

Greece - In the neighbourhood around the 11th century Byzantine church of Agioi Theodoroi in central Athens is a newly renovated Art Deco building well known by locals as once owned by the internationally acclaimed composer and musician Vangelis.
Inherited by the Chariots of Fire composer following the death of his father, the building was until recently occupied mainly by offices and law firms, with an arcade of shops on the ground floor. Now, following the passing of Vangelis, the building has been renovated by new owners, with the ground floor, arcade and basement leased to a group of mostly local musicians, DJs and club operators, all fans of Vangelis and eager to pay tribute to the spirit of the musician.
Named after a watchmaking shop that had occupied the building for many years, The Architects of Time is an all-day venue combining good food and drinks wi

USA - In the heart of Tampa, Florida, stands the Yuengling Centre, a versatile arena known for hosting everything from sports events to music concerts. However, despite its rich history and impressive infrastructure, the management felt that the venue lacked a certain spark that could elevate its events to a new level. In response, production and integration company Thunder City Production Solutions teamed with Elation lighting to bring a transformative lighting experience to the arena.
When Thunder City Pro took on the challenge of revamping the centre’s lighting, they strategically selected Elation Fuze SFX LED Spot FX luminaires and Rayzor 760 wash effect moving heads to take centre stage.
Justin Stancil, president of Thunder City, highlighted the upgrade: “Previously, two spotlight operators would come in and do some ballyhoos for team intros and that was abou

Named one of the top 50 universities worldwide, Monash is continually striving to offer the most comprehensive learning regimen possible, one that puts student and professor connectivity above all else. So, when the world started shifting from analogue VGA video to HDMI digital, and their students required higher quality output from its AV systems, Monash called on audio visual design manager and lead architect Peter MacLean to overhaul the university’s sound setup.
Over the past decade, MacLean has worked with Monash University to define what a new AV system needed to do to improve the learning experience. Some of these requirements included natural, smooth and rich sound with high speech i

France - Pélerinage Militaire International was born of peace and hope. In 1945, with the horrors of the just-ended Second World War still scarring the landscape, Mgr Jules Saliège, the Archbishop of Toulouse, created the idea of having a gathering of wounded military personnel in Lourdes, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in the Roman Catholic faith. The concept quickly blossomed and within three years, soldiers from many nations, often former enemies, were coming together at the annual event to worship and heal wounds.
Today PMI, as it is called in France, attracts some 14,000 military pilgrims from 40 different nations. This year, their services at the Basilica of St. Pius X were enriched by a new lighting system that features 79 Chauvet Professional projectors supplied by Videlio.

Australia - Canberra’s Belconnen Art Centre has chosen Prolights' EclDisplay range as the main lighting system for its innovative Window Gallery, an exhibition gallery overlooking the street. The space operates in 24-hour mode and is visible from the outside, attracting the attention of passers-by at all times of the day, meaning a suitable lighting system was required.
For this, Linda Buck - technical manager at Belconnen Art Centre - relied on Show Technology, Prolights' distributor in Australia, to select the new system. She explains: “The Window Gallery is a tricky space to deal with as you have light in the day coming through and then night time too. I decided to look at different options for profile-type lights in the gallery space that also had Casambi control.”
Prolights’ EclDisplay range was ultimately selected, with the installation of spotlights in

Norway - When dining at a Michelin Guide restaurant, the focus isn’t usually on the audio - more often everyone’s eyes are focused on the plates of well-crafted food. However, Villa Heftye - a laid-back bistro in the heart of Oslo - recently took the focus away from revamping its ever-changing seasonal menu to renovate its listed restaurant with a custom Genelec sound system.
Villa Heftye began life as a bank back in 1864. Commissioned by Jorgen Haslev Heftye and designed by Norwegian architect Georg Andreas Bull, it was bought in 2018 by local investor Runar Vatne for NOK 80 million. In 2021 the villa became restaurant Villa Heftye, an elegant yet casual bistro with an emphasis on French-inspired cuisine that uses seasonal Nordic ingredients.
"The brief was to build an audio system with the best possible sound," begins Henning Dyngvold, founder of Appletify who in
