The lighting needed to be sufficiently versatile to cater for an entertainment programme ranging from comedy to burlesque, contortionists and acrobats to high-octane dance within a multi-role venue targeted at a slightly older age demographic. At the same time guests needed to feel they were interacting within a TV reality-type set.

"I think this was one of the reasons Steve [Thomas]contacted us," noted Kirby. "We have worked extensively in TV studio lighting, and it's programmes like X-Factor that audiences these days are used to seeing. The Erdgas Sportpark, as it is known, has a seating capacity of over 15,000 and includes eight boxes, 320 business seats and 30 places for the handicapped. After the first match in the new stadium, against Hamburger SV of the Bundesliga on 20 September, the club was able to report a full house. R2W's Dallas office was tapped to handle the design and installation of a new sound system for the atrium as well as other system required by the renovation.

The renovation consisted of gutting the existing lobby of the 1,606 room hotel and creating a new 11 story high atrium that features a prominent water element and new Media Grill + Bar. The 11,000 square foot space required an unobtrusive, distributed sound system for music playback in the area.

The hotel design team placed 25 custom light fixtures throughout the area and allocated space within the fixtures for loudspeakers.

The auditorium which was originally a 1950's screening cinema was fully refurbished & modernised. It now houses an 8m screen, Christie Digital HD10K-M high definition projector which is fed via a Analog Way SME100 seamless switcher. An Allen & Heath iDR system processes and controls the audio from Tascam & Bluray systems.

In the run up to Christmas a spectacular show, Celebrate The Light, is being projected onto the front of the impressive 250 ft wide by 150 ft high façade of the church building. Drawing crowds of up to 5,000, and running six times a night, a Vista T2 is in control of this popular show.

With the help of Steve Alford of leading technical production company Alford Media - who supplied three Barco 20K FLM projectors and a pair of Green Hippo Grasshopper media servers - as well as local graphic designer David Koss this became a reality.

In 1999, AV systems integrator Boston Light & Sound was brought in to design and install a PA system utilising a pair of EAW MQ1364 MF/HF Array Loudspeakers on either side of an MQTD412 LF Array Loudspeaker with a single MQ1394 below and JF290zs for L&R Orchestra-fill. At the time, with the theatre's balcony closed, the system provided complete coverage of the venue's main-floor and mezzanine seating areas. The project brief for Charcoalblue was to design, schedule and manage a comprehensive refurbishment of the main ICA cinemas. The challenge was to ensure it could happen in the short break between Christmas and New Year.
