Russia - The historic Novosibirsk State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet (NSATOB) is the biggest theatre complex in Russia, a whopping 62,245sq.m larger than the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. It is also now one of the most technologically advanced in the country, thanks to a recent £2.9m (€4.32m) government grant for renovation. From acoustics to lighting to general stage technology, the theatre is now completely digital. And, as part of the upgrade, NSATOB chose lighting systems by ETC.

The last time the 62-year-old theatre underwent renovation was in 1953 - after weathering a challenging early history. The original architectural design for the massive neoclassical complex was chosen at a competition in Paris in 1930. Construction began the following year, but was halted during WWII. During the war, the partially completed building was used to house famous works of art

UK - Ex-public relations professionals Duncan Stirling and Charlie Gilkes have teamed up with designer Ed Godrich to open the exclusive Kitts nightclub in Chelsea's Sloane Square - complete with a sound system largely supplied by Fuzion plc.

Since the bijou, 160-capacity club is situated in the basement of the new Sloane Square Hotel; the operating team knew they had to make every square metre count.

While Goodrich and his team of collectives have provided design inspiration around the perimeter wall, with a million hand-drilled holes, LED backlit to create a kind of pointillist fresco, complemented by silver leaf flecked flooring, a curved bronze bar and discreet booths, Duncan Stirling has come up his own piece of sonic magic.

Norway - Soundcraft's Vi6 digital audio console has found acceptance at the very heart of European dramatic theatre, installed at the distinguished Nationaltheatret in Oslo, popularly thought of as the spiritual home of Norway's most famous playwright Henrik Ibsen.

Soundcraft's Norwegian distributors LydRommet AS secured the prestigious order through quick reactions: when the theatre's existing digital console failed, spectacularly taking out all the HF drivers on the house PA system, LydRommet's Espen Andersen was able to supply the 32-fader Soundcraft Vi6 within days, according to sound engineer Roy Knudsen.

"LydRommet brought in their demo console on Friday, we had preparation time on Monday, we soundchecked on Tuesday. We exchanged the demo desk for our permanent new Vi6 on Wednesday and started rehearsals that very day."

UAE - Located beneath the luxury Fairmont Hotel, one of the most distinctive buildings in the rapidly-expanding urbanisation of Dubai, the 400 Club is an exclusive 700 capacity nightclub. Decorated in a classic French style, the club was originally scheduled to open in December 2005. But the owners delayed the opening by nearly a year in order to ensure everything was "perfect".

With a choice of music heavily influenced by the UK club scene, the audio system needed to be versatile and high quality, in order to complement the rest of the facilities, and XTA's DP series processors were the choice of local audio specialists Reference Audio.

"The décor features heavy drapes and furniture everywhere," says Reference Audio's Brent Davenport. "Our brief was that we could not fly any loudspeakers above the dance floor. Everything had to be in a place th

UK - Following a successful tender bid, the communication systems company ADC was recently contracted by easyJet airlines to provide a localised paging system for its check-in facilities at London Luton Airport.

London Luton Airport generally has a 'silent terminal' policy and discourages excessive paging calls in its buildings. ADC's brief was therefore to supply and install a powerful but localised paging facility, situated within the specified area of the airport's main check-in hall. Additionally the Airport's own public address and voice alarm had to maintain priority over this paging system.

ADC chose the highly efficient Community R.25-94TX loudspeakers for their power and tightly controlled dispersion characteristics. Four units were installed at high level, set for 100V line usage and driven by a TOA amplifier with a TOA paging panel. The TOA amplifier is also interfa
