UK - Ambersphere Solutions has announced two additions to its product portfolio in Astera and Zactrack.
This brings Ambersphere's range to six UK exclusive offerings, including Ayrton, Claypaky, MA lighting, and Robert Juliat.
Astera manufactures cable-less LED fixtures, including a waterproof, pixel controllable RGBW tube (AX1); the magnetic AX3 (Lightdrop), which can be used as a hanging or free-standing; the AX5 battery uplighter; and the AX7 and AX10 event spotlights. Ambersphere now carries the whole range, as well as a wide stock of spares and accessories.
Zactrack is a motion tracking system, which can operate standalone but is designed to integrate with any lighting system. Ambersphere has a full demo system set up in their West London showroom.

UK - London-based PA rental company Capital Sound Hire has confirmed its acquisition by SSE Audio Group.
The deal follows a period where the two businesses have been aligned through a strategic partnership. Capital Sound will continue to operate as a separate brand, but will be able to access the Group’s resources, including its multi-million pound hire inventory comprising L-Acoustics and d&b audiotechnik systems and the largest rental stock of digital mixing consoles in the UK. UK - Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and the Lighting Education Trust (LET) have announced a partnership to develop a new undergraduate lighting design degree pathway in Space and Architecture.
The proposed pathway is a development of the college’s existing BA (Hons) Lighting Design programme and is a study route for those wishing to make architectural lighting design a career.
Starting in September, the pathway will be available for four BA (Hons) Lighting Design Students per year. The £30,000 three-year package of support from LET will include staff and teaching resources as well as industry placement opportunities.

UK - The University of Kent has launched a new Centre for Music and Audio Technology (CMAT) to equip students with the range of skills necessary for a career in the music industry.

UK - A group of industry representatives will cycle from Chippenham to London Olympia on Saturday 15 September to increase awareness of mental health within the entertainment and events industries. All donations will go to Backup, the technical entertainment charity which helps industry members and their families get back on their feet during times of hardship.
Starting at 7am, the cyclists will traverse 100 miles across the North Wessex Downs towards London in time for the PLASA Show. So far, eight cyclists have signed up to the challenge, including Peter Heath and Shane McGreevy of PLASA, John McEvoy and Bryan Raven of Whitelight, and Ben Tredwell of Autograph. 
This bike ride is part on an on-going collaboration between PLASA and PSA to support the mental health of all those working within lighting, AV, live sound, rigging and staging. This collaboration continues

UK - Event production and equipment specialists Light Fantastic Production Services (LFPS) has welcomed three Elstree University Technical College (EUTC) students at its Borehamwood base.
EUTC, a university technical college for 14-19 year-olds, delivers an academic curriculum as well as specialist courses in creative arts and media production. Those, who benefited from work experience at LFPS, are Key Stage 5 (16-19 year-olds) students on the school’s BTEC Production Technology course.

USA - The ANSI Board of Standards Review has approved a revised version of ANSI E1.46, Standard for the Prevention of Falls from Theatrical Stages and Raised Performance Platforms. The standard has been revised to address changes to the OSHA regulations for fall protection, while keeping the document's useful guidance for preventing falls from stages into the orchestra pit or the house.

Europe - Integrated Systems Events, the producers of the Integrated Systems Europe exhibition, has announced that its 2021 edition will be held at Gran Via, part of the Fira de Barcelona exhibition complex in Spain on 2-5 February.
The new venue will become the permanent location for the AV and systems integration show.
An ISE statement says, “The decision to relocate the ISE exhibition comes after 18 months of research into the viability of remaining at the RAI Amsterdam. With annual growth in ISE exhibitors and attendees approaching 10%, and the international AV market forecast to grow by 5% per annum through to 2021, it was concluded that ISE was outgrowing its popular Amsterdam location.
“ISE 2018 attracted 80,923 attendees, of which 22,000 were visiting the show for the first time while 1,296 exhibitors filled 53,000 net sqm of floor space in 15 halls.

Portugal - Airstar, the French lighting balloon technology specialist, delivered a remarkable performance for the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) of Lisbon, on the banks of the Tagus.
Before battling it out in Lisbon’s Altice Arena, one of the country’s largest concert halls, delegations from 43 countries gathered at the MAAT to walk on the ESC’s ‘Blue Carpet’, under the light of Airstar’s lighting balloons.

UK - When independent Welsh production company Cwmni Da converted their open plan office into a new studio earlier this year, in the town of Caernarfon on the northwest coast of Wales, the award-winning television producers sought to minimize their carbon footprint by installing a more energy-efficient lighting system.
Lighting company Lumio Media obliged by suggesting, specifying and installing an LED lighting package of TV-optimized Elation Professional luminaires.
Cwmni Da produces a variety of television content for Welsh-language broadcasters S4C and C4, as well as the BBC.
