UK - The festival season drew to a close recently after a disastrous summer when many of the major festivals were cancelled due to the terrible weather. Luckily the rain stayed away for the final two major events in London's Hyde Park- the Proms in the Park and Radio Two's Festival in a Day.
Blinding Light Ltd, based in Reading, was chosen to supply lighting for both events. Part of the requirement was to light the huge windows in the Proms set. For this, they used 32 of MilTec's LEDHead Batten2 units (two mounted in the base of each window). Fitted with 18x 8W quadcolour LEDs and Powercon mains connectors and weighing only 6kg each, they proved a very effective yet lightweight and low powered solution.
Tony Hall, Blinding Lights' lighting designer commented, "The MilTec battens have proved to be extremely reliable, and pack a great punch for their size. I was extremely p

Japan - "We've done it before, but never had such a response," Shinchiro 'Yone' Yonekura remarking on a recent presentation of the new d&b audiotechnik V-Series to the great and the good of the Japanese pro audio industry. "Everyone knows we are very conservative in Japan, even in pro audio, so when I decided the best way to introduce the new V-Series was a practical demonstration in a proper live venue I invited many people; sound engineers, system designers, audio consultants, and our dealer network of course; but I didn't expect over a hundred people to turn up."
There may have been other reasons; Yonekura launched the T-Series in similar fashion a few years ago, and although that event didn't draw as many people, the creeping success of the T-Series in Japan may be one reason why people paid more attention this time

The change in law is part of a government move to free businesses from red tape, which ministers say will give them more freedom to grow. UK Music, which represents the music industry, estimates that the Live Music Act could enable 13,000 more venues to start holding live music events. Live unamplified music can also now be played in any location under the act.
Business Minister Michael Fallon said, "From today [Monday] businesses are freed from the red tape that holds them back." The change was introduced through a private member's bill, introduced by Liberal Democrat Don Foster, in order to amend some of the bureaucracy imposed on gigs by the 2003 Licensing Act.
