Acoustic Dimensions will be involved in the first challenge for the new reality-based television show, ‘Challenge America with Erin Brockovich’. New York City Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, issued the challenge to rebuild rundown soccer fields and to renovate a theatre in lower Manhattan. Ms. Brockovich has been asked to finish the project in one week - without a cent to work with.

The abandoned theatre was originally designed by Robert Moses in the 1930s. Joseph Papp used it in the 1950s as the first home for the famous New York Shakespeare Festival, which is now based in Central Park. By the 1970s, the theatre itself had fallen into disrepair and neglect, blocked off by chain link fence and covered in graffiti.

Acoustic Dimensions donated its services to consult with HLW Architects on the renovation of the theatre. The new design involved the removal of the dilapidated stage

The PA system was supplied by Canegreen and featured two Midas Heritage 3000 consoles for the FOH and monitor positions, plus Meyer amp

As Christmas approaches, White Light has been busy lighting landmarks around London for the festive season. At Somerset House in the West End, the dancing fountains in the building's main square have been replaced with a public ice rink for the Christmas period - a transformation which first took place last Christmas and which now seems set to become an annual tradition. To add to the atmosphere, White Light was asked to light the buildings around the rink in festive blue: the transformation was achieved by Tim Bray and Ian Scott with a collection of exterior floodlights and a large collection of mains distribution! The ice rink lighting continues White Light's involvement with Somerset House, where White Light Group member The Service Company commissioned the architectural lighting control system.

South of the Thames, White Light revisited another old friend: the 1940s House at the Im

As a result of continued problems with the supply of key components for the Sirius range, Zero 88 has announced that it is discontinuing production of its Sirius 250 and Sirius 500 desks. "This has been a difficult decision," explains Tim Burt, Zero 88's brand manager. "The Sirius has been a pioneering range for Zero 88, introducing a number revolutionary new features to the industry such as the Cueline graphical interface. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to source components for these desks, making manufacture and delivery unreliable. We do now have the complete Frog range in place and will be adding some new functionality to the Frog software in the New Year to make these desks even more powerful." Zero 88 will continue to support the product range with technical support and updated fixture data.

At the PLASA show in September, an agreement was reached between Stage Accompany and Aquarius Sound, which will see the latter distributing SA products in the Irish market. Aquarius' Phil Connolly and son Niall run a well-respected company, which has been active in the pro-audio market for many years. After hearing an SA Ribbon-loaded system in the 3000-capacity Powerzone discotheque in Amsterdam, and a number of clubs in Cyprus, Phil and Niall decided it would fulfil a demand from clients for something more 'upscale'.

Tom Back of Stage Accompany told us: "With some truly benchmark-setting products in the pipe-line, we have great expectations for SA. We're very happy to have an experienced and knowledgeable team like Aquarius representing our products in Ireland."
