Italy - Creating a celebration of light, lighting designer Paul Cocksedge has used 80 ETC Selador Classic Ice fixtures in an exhibition space as part of the Salone del Mobile home furnishing exhibition in Milan.

The project involved projecting light from the blue part of the colour spectrum from concealed Selador fixtures onto a the 25m long, curved, white wall extension of a lighting showroom in the heart of Milan's design district; when visitors viewed the wall through a red light shade, a previously hidden video of a car appeared to the viewer.

Cocksedge says: "I was very ambitious about what I was proposing; we were really pushing the boundaries of what is achievable. I wanted a lot of light, and a very certain, precise light. Only the Selador Ice unit gave that precisi

Kuwait - The first specialist centre for autism in the Middle East, the Kuwait Centre for Autism last year took the decision to refurbish its theatre, until then used solely for internal purposes, in order to host independent productions and so act as a revenue stream for the centre.

Although only five years old, the theatre had limited amenities and required a major upgrade to tempt the music, theatre, drama and conference productions, from both Kuwait and the rest of the world, that the directors hoped for.

Dubai-based Unusual Rigging & Engineering was contracted by the project's integrators, Solutech, to design and build a grid that would provide the infrastructure for a lighting system plus the drapes, borders and legs which have been supplied by ShowTex Middle East.

Although lighting existed, Leon Ingram, project manager at Unusual Rigging, realised that a completely ne

Nigeria - At the Eko Le Meridien Hotel on Victoria Island in Lagos Fela!, the stage musical about Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, made its triumphant homeland debut during the recent Nigerian presidential elections.

Once again the Tony Award winning sound designer Rob Kaplowitz chose a TiMax2 SoundHub delay matrix as a central element of his immersive sound design to help bring out the drama and impact in this emotional story of afrobeat's inception and the political struggles of its founder.

Following its critically acclaimed Broadway debut, Fela! did a sell-out three-month run at London's National Theatre. Rob Kaplowitz employed a TiMax2 SoundHub matrix and TiMax Tracker performer tracking system to "create various 'zones' in the house which allowed us to fulfill the director's request to localise the voices to their sources, while simultaneously allowing me

"The importance of top quality lighting on events of this calibre should not be underestimated," says Robert Juliat's sales director, Lionel Garraud. "A lot of responsibility rests on showing the work of the designers, choreographers and models to their best advantage. France - A multi-purpose stage was created by Stageco in the Stade de France, Paris for a series of three live events during June, 2011.

It remained in the stadium for use by the Black Eyed Peas on 22-25 June, and, with only a few weeks' notice, Prince on 30 June. Stageco made adjustments to the stage to suit each act, changing the configuration to meet different requirements.

The Black Eyed Peas played to 75,000 people during each of the three sell out nights, for which Stageco altered the floor level of the stage and adjusted the lighting and sound arrangement to maximise the audience's view.

Aaron Cass, the Black Eyed Peas tour manager comments: "I have been working with Stageco since 1996. They are always so prepared. We just

UK - LEDHead EPW is the new multi-function LED moving head from MilTec (UK).

The LEDHead EPW uses the latest LED technology to give a moving head with true spot and wash capabilities, says the company. The 60W white LED light engine, colour wheel, two gobo wheels and rotating prism provide the spot functions.

UAE - The Amika Dubai has opted for a Dynacord sound system. Installed by CEG Technologies of Dubai, the Amika solution is based on the Dynacord VariLine, with 19 VL-262, four Sub 18 and three Sub 115 enclosures.

"We were acutely aware of the extremely high hurdle we had to clear if the Dubai club was to live up to the very high reputation of its sister club in London," says Chant Utukian, CEG Technologies' project manager. "The directors of the Amika were adamant that the standards set by the London club should be maintained in every respect."

AVL Electronics employed simulations to guide the design and configuration of the sound system. "As soon as they heard the system, our customers were not only astonished but captivated. Italy - Over 350sq.m of Pixled LED screen is being used to spectacular effect on the latest sold-out stadium tour by Italian superstar Vasco Rossi - Live Kom '011 - specified by lighting and visuals designer, Giovanni Pinna.

The Pixled F-25 and F-37L surfaces were purchased by Milan based AV Rental company Event Management specially for the tour, and supplied to them from Pixled Europe's HQ in Belgium. It's Event Management's first investment in the Pixled brand - although the company has used it on shows in the past.

For the Rossi tour, 14 columns of Pixled F-37L are positioned in two sections of seven either side of the stage at the back. These are on a Cyberhoist automation system that moves them between level 1 (the stage) and level 2 of the set. They can also move apart into seven individual segments or be run as one large surface per side.

Hungary - Allen & Heath's iLive digital mixing system managed the audio broadcast feed for RTL Klub TV channel's Való Világ (Real World) reality show in Hungary, running non-stop for a total of 164 days.

The producers wanted two separate systems running 24 hours a day, picking up different material which could be selected for the final daily edit. Installed by A&H's national distributor, Audmax, in collaboration with system integrator, Rexfilm, an iDR10 modular MixRack was installed in a studio room managing 32 inputs, and a second iDR10 in the CAR-room managing 24 inputs and 48 outputs. Both MixRacks were connected via ACE to iLive-144 control surfaces located in the sound control room, and fitted with Ethersound to network them together for input sharing. The programme's sound engineers then used iLive Editor to manage both systems.

Ireland - Robe moving lights proved themselves to be a robust and reliable choice of moving light for any festival situation, with over 100 used on the main stage plus many more around the site at the 2011 Oxegen Festival in County Kildare.

True to form, the skies opened and it pelted with rain throughout the first day of the event, turning the site at Punchestown Racecourse into a slightly sticky, mud-tastic experience - which didn't dampen any of the vibes.

The highprofile festival is promoted by the country's largest concert and live event organisation, MCD and this year it featured a strong line-up.

Dublin-based rental company Just Lite's relationship with MCD's Denis Desmond stretches back over 20 years, and the company headed by Paul and Alan Smith has been involved with lighting the festival for the last 11 years, when it was originally launched as Witnness in 2000. O

The Roxette show was staged at Bergenhus Fortress & Castle (a greenfield site, which is part of a medieval fortress and castle) located in the middle of Bergen's historic centre. It was moved from its originally intended site and the capacity increased from 6,500 to 10,000 people - which was immediately - again - sold out.

All five members of Take That are using Sennheiser SKM5200 handheld wireless microphones with dynamic MD5235 heads and EM3732 MkII dual receivers, as well as 2000 series in-ear monitors (IEMs). Further sets of the IEMs are used by the backing band, dancers and technical crew, while wired backing vocal mics are e 935s.
