Millbank Electronics has extended its sole distribution agreement with RW Salt for a further three years. RW Salt is the UK’s biggest wholesale distributor of CCTV, PA/VA and professional audio equipment and has been the exclusive supplier of Millbank products to the UK market place for the last two years.

Millbank’s range of XK amplifiers and off-the-shelf multi zone broadcast systems - JustiFire, QualiFire and VeriFire - will now be the focus for RW Salt as it looks to build on its strategy of providing system design and installation solutions. Craig Buckley, general manager of RW Salt, told us: "We are delighted to extend our agreement with Millbank, which has a highly regarded industry name and is respected for the quality and reliability of its products. PLASA Media has been contacted by Owen Radmore of the Rage Ensemble, a dance and theatre company. Radmore asks: "I hope that you can help us to track down a Zero 88 XLS for use by the Rage Ensemble . . . We have selected this product because of its separate colour scroller control. We have contacted Zero 88, but they have sold their last two models. The XLS now seems to be becoming quite scarce but we hope that someone will have one somewhere!"

Has any one got a Zero 88 XLS, ex-demo, ex-hire, etc that they can donate to the Rage Ensemble - a performing arts company for young people who are or who are in danger of becoming socially excluded. Members of the ensemble work with professionals on theatre and film productions; between now and Christmas, the company will be working on three pub theatre productions, so the desk will get plenty of use by the 12 students. Lightfactor Sales supplied lighting designer Paul O'Brien from Rainmaker with a variety of lighting fixtures to realise his design for the controversial Kylie Minogue 'Fever' installation at Madame Tussauds, London. Fever depicts the Pop Princess on all fours, dressed in a revealing red silk mini-dress and thigh-length black lace-up boots, with her famous derrière thrust provocatively skyward.

O'Brien and Lightfactor originally collaborated on designing, supplying and installing an overhead lighting rig in this temporary exhibition space in Tussauds for the 'Feel The Goal' world cup project. This also involved video playback, surround sound, floor tremblers and 39 fibre optic light heads sunk into the floor. The idea with the initial lighting install was to be able to change the look and feel of the space instantly, simply by varying the colours and textures of the lighting. Lighting

Wharfedale Programme 60T and 50T cabinets delivered more oompah to the masses at Munich’s traditional Oktoberfest this year than any other loudspeaker. The transformer versions of the popular installation speaker featured in no fewer than seven of the 14 tents, which necessitated the purchase of 90 enclosures by local rental company LuTV GmbH.

According to Johnny Kluten of Wharfedale Pro distributor IAG GmbH, who sold the speakers, to have so many British boxes roaming free in Bavaria - the backyard of Germany’s most famous loudspeaker manufacturer - was an added bonus. Kluten says it was the versatility of the high-output Programme series that appealed to a range of exhibitors, exposing them to some 5 million people over the two weeks. "We had some idea about the attributes of competitive boxes but we believe the Programme series was a better product at a better price

Star Hire (Event Services) Ltd provided the staging for one of the main dance events of the year, Creamfields, held on August Bank Holiday on Speke Airfield, Liverpool. Since the early 1990s Creamfields has set trends and pushed boundaries in terms of the music and events and Creamfields 2002 again set trends by changing the format of the dance festival, introducing a large main stage to the arena. The traditional layout of dance events has been a collection of marquees containing various styles of music, but for the first time Creamfields introduced a main stage into their arena. Star Hire’s 20m Vertech stage created a spectacular focal point for the live acts performing through the evening. Star Hire also supplied the staging for nine of the dance tents.

Live acts on the main stage included dance legends Faithless and Underworld, joined by newcomers including Kosheen and Dirty

Continuing with its commitment to integrated audio systems, Yamaha has introduced the PC Series power amplifiers, NHB32-C Cobranet Network Hub Bridge and ACU16-C Cobranet Amplifier Control Unit at the AES exhibition in Los Angeles. The PC4800N and PC9500N amplifiers are powerful, efficient and surprisingly quiet choices for any fixed or mobile application, say Yamaha. Both models have been engineered to reproduce power linearity and very low distortion - even when driven hard - resulting in an uncoloured, "three-dimensional" feel of the original sound source.

The PC4800N amplifier delivers two channels of 800W power (20Hz to 20kHz) into 4 ohms, and a bridged mono channel of 1600W. The PC9500N amplifier offers two channels of 1500-watt power at 4 ohms (20 Hz to 20 kHz), or a single channel of 3000W, bridged mono. Total Harmonic Distortion is 0.5%. Both PC Series models feature

Light Relief, the charity that supports lighting designers with personal difficulties, raised both its profile and plenty of money at this year's PLASA, while adding a different flavour with an R 'n' R Area, offering weary visitors and exhibitors upper body and foot massages.

"Thanks to the generosity of the sponsor companies, including DHA Lighting, ETC, Forester Health, Harmer PR, Martin Professional, PLASA, Stage Electrics, Strand Lighting, Vari-Lite Europe and WWG, the R 'n' R Area was a great success, raising in excess of £1,500," said Tony Gottelier, co-founder of Light Relief. "This was a first for both PLASA and Light Relief, and there was no way of predicting response, so we were delighted to be so busy on the Sunday that we had a queuing system! Thanks to its success, there are plans to make this a permanent amenity for the show."

Turbosound reports that leading rental company Britannia Row enjoyed one of its busiest Turbosound days of the year during September, with Flashlight, QLight and TFM monitor systems featuring extensively. On a single hectic September day, Britannia Row deployed Turbosound rigs at four venues across the UK: the Albert Hall for a two-night Morrisey concert, the Langham Hilton for a Natalie Cole BBC broadcast, the Astoria in London as part of Richard Ashcroft's UK Tour, and the Manchester Evening News Arena for James Taylor's European Tour.

These events reflected Britannia Row's widespread use of Turbosound TFM-450 wedges throughout this summer, with numerous projects including the Glastonbury Festival and the Queen's Jubilee Rock and Pop Concert. The schedule also underlined the flexibility of Turbosound's current products for handling such a broad range of venues. Morrisey, the former S

Worms - Germany’s oldest city - was the setting recently for a major performance of one of Europe’s most well-known crime thrillers, the Nibelungen tragedy. Performed outdoors in front of the impressive backdrop of Worms cathedral, the show starred Mario Adorf and was directed by Dieter Wedel. The story about murder, revenge and betrayal is inspired by the myth of the Nibelungen. Moritz Rinke, one of the most important theatre writers of this age, has provided the actual text for the city of Worms.

Lighting and control equipment for the event was supplied by Lightpower, who provided Clay Paky fixtures including 37 Stage Color 1200, 26 Stage Zoom 1200 and four Stage Profile Plus SV fixtures - the latter being Clay Paky’s sophisticated new moving body beam-shaper.
