PLASA 2012: MilTec's innovative approach pays
24 September 2012
UK - MilTec (UK) Ltd and UK distributor MT-Pro Ltd. reported a busy PLASA with visitors to the stand right from the moment the show opened.
"We had a steady flow of existing customers and lots of inquiries from new contacts right through the show," said sales director David Faulkes, "Much of this interest was due to the new products that we were showing. We have been looking very carefully at the needs of the market and have focussed on designing multi-function products, giving the best value for money". This approach has led to innovations in both the LEDHead LED Lighting and MT Professional Acoustics ranges.
On the lighting side the company showed the EPW2 moving head luminaire and the batten based CycWash system, both using LED technology and both fulfilling multiple roles. The EPW2 is fitted with a 150W white LED for use as a spot luminaire and 8x 9W tricolour LEDs for use as a wash. The CycWash system uses a reflective barn door to convert a batten into a cyclorama wash light.
Innovation in audio products was shown in the TP62R speaker cabinet. This low profile box is designed to be used as a conventional speaker for installation and small rental systems but with the option to be used in a line array with the addition of an easy to fit adaptor and flying hardware. It can also be stacked on top of a sub to replicate a large mid-top cabinet.
"We already have a long list of demos to carry out as soon as we have production units available," Faulkes added. "Our technical people have got a very busy couple of months ahead."
MilTec also took the opportunity to announce a new addition to the Board of Directors. Garry Dowling joined in August as CEO to oversee MilTec's further growth in the pro sector of the market.
Dowling comes with 26 years experience of running his own business manufacturing and distributing equipment for fluid handling, metering and spray finishing plant. Customers covered the full range from small owner-operators up to Airbus Industries, Rolls Royce, Bank of England, JCB and Glaxo. The company employed 38 people, spread over 6 depots.
His experience covers financial control, design, manufacturing and distribution. He recently sold the business and now acts as a consultant to the new owner as well as other businesses. "My aim is to move MilTec forward through product innovation and design, manufacturing quality, improved stock levels and on the road sales. This will be backed up by improved after-sales and technical support" said Dowling.
David Faulkes added, "We are delighted to welcome Garry to the company. His wide range of skills and experience will be invaluable in projecting MilTec forwards in the coming years. All of the MilTec team are looking forward to working with him in the future."
