DJ Kofi up to scratch with Rane mixer
11 June 2010
UK - The newly available Rane Sixty-Eight Mixer with Serato Scratch Live 2.0 is being championed by DJ Kofi, who bought the first one to be made available in the UK.
Rane and Serato have created the first scratch live compatible DJ mixer to allow two computers to be connected simultaneously, making it "the ultimate club mixer experience". Using two USB ports, the Rane Sixty-Eight lets two DJs play Scratch Live at the same time, enabling seamless handover from one DJ to another.
The mixer also lets you manage up to four decks with a single laptop and offers access to more tracks and effects than ever before.
"I was using the TTM 57 before and it didn't have beat roll and other things, so it was a bit more complicated to manoeuvre around," says DJ Kofi. "But so many things have been added. On the Sixty-Eight you have all these triggers for the cue points and rolls. Also, I used to have a separate console on top and a computer to the side but everything is now built in and it's so much better. And the sound quality is so much better, too.
"The Sixty-Eight is especially good for the type of show I do with Gorillaz, particularly because of the use of video," Kofi continues. "Everything is synced to whatever we're playing. For each bit of music we have a different effect. If I'm scratching, we might have words or particular images to give a real audio visual bonanza."
