Bosch: further improvements to DCN
28 November 2005
The Netherlands - Bosch Security Systems has announces a number of additions to its DCN Digital Congress System, making it "the most complete and versatile system of its kind available on the market today" according to the company. Key improvements include a chairman 'free-seating' facility, high-speed optical cable connection, graphical display of all language character types, and microphones which are "immune to interference from mobile cell phones" - a new technology for which Bosch says it has filed a patent.
DCN Next Generation has been designed and developed in close consultation with congress delegates, interpreters and operators. As a result, the system is suitable for a wide range of applications ranging from straightforward discussion groups to multi-lingual congresses with thousands of delegates. The system allows delegates to choose the floor language or any of 31 different interpretations with high-quality speech (up to 20kHz).
Bosch's award-winning (iF International Forum) flush-mount delegate/chairman unit, has similar functionality to the Concentus tabletop unit. It enables 'click-to-fit' installation in tables or armrests without the need to drill holes or affix with screws or nuts and bolts. This unit offers a choice of functional panels that combine in a strip to be customized to suit application requirements. The DCN Discussion unit can function for either delegate or chairman use, allowing free seating for the chairman. Microphones provide communication for two delegates, while full-scale electronic voting is also enabled.
DCN Next Generation also offers efficient language distribution with wired, flush-mounted channel sector panels, while for wireless operation, Bosch's proven Integrus infra-red system brings crystal-clear reception with privacy and no interference from light sources. Freedom of movement is enabled through headphones connected to pocket-sized receivers, say the company.
For larger meetings and conferences, the system is controlled by PC or a state-of-the-art touchscreen. A family of software modules enables all conference management and control functions. These functions can be enabled by multiple PCs that also provide other tasks like pre-conference encoding of delegate ID cards and writing voting scripts, and post-conference administration such as distribution of voting results. Communication between the Central Control Unit and peripheral equipment uses loss-free, high-speed fiber-optic cabling. Smaller meetings and conferences may not need PC control. Extended voting, also centrally controlled, is enabled through delegate voting units that have parliamentary-style voting facilities with for and against, multiple choice, opinion polling and audience response functions.
