Tower rises to tennis challenge
UK - Edinburgh-based Tower Productions recently delivered a tricky request for the Davis cup at Braehead arena in Glasgow. A perfectly-even spread of light at 2000 lux 1ft off the court had been specified for this televised event.
This not being an everyday lighting challenge, considerable thought and much photometric calculus was required to supply the answer. This came in the shape of 16 x 2000W discharge fittings flown from trusses either side of the court giving a spectacularly bright, flat, player and camera-friendly lighting solution.
The custom, two-phase ballasts and switch gear were fabricated into modular, connectorised units in-house, overseen by James Mitchelmore Towers' project manager.
Audience lighting and stings were achieved by a mix of 24 Robe CW700 and CS700 fittings run from an Avolites Pearl Expert control desk.
