Denon DJ supports Waxworks Music Initiative

UK - Denon DJ has announced that it is supporting the Waxworks Music Initiative - a social enterprise that aims to re-engage socially excluded or disadvantaged young people in Bradford by offering them opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications in and around music.

The company is throwing its brand cachet into the enterprise by supplying a DN-S1000 MP3 tabletop player and matching DN-X100, contained in a single soft-cased package. Working within diverse communities, Waxworks has created bespoke music programmes and accredited courses through the national open college network (NOCN). It has recently been supported by the local authorities (for its work towards their community cohesion agenda), by Bradford Vision (the local strategic partnership who oversee the regeneration of the city) and by many equipment manufacturers (such as Denon).

Waxworks has assembled some well respected names from the DJ and music worlds, including Mista Ed (Bomb Hip-Hop Records) and James Atkin (EMF/Bentley Rhythm Ace) to help deliver the programme.

"Our aim is to establish a music centre where all the courses can run," says Waxworks' Nick Merrick. "The last six months has been spent securing funds from the European Union to ensure that the first year's costs are covered until we can be self sustainable."

Said D&M Professional Europe's David Atkinson: "Nick's doing a fantastic job with Waxworks - it was a fairly straightforward decision for Denon DJ to support him. And our entry level DNS1000 CD package seemed like the most obvious choice to offer as it's incredibly easy for anyone to pick up the basics of DJing with!"
