Currently playing at London’s Phoenix Theatre, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a prequel to the Duffer Brothers’ incredibly popular Netflix series. Directed by Stephen Daldry and set 30 years before the TV version, the ambitious stage production saw its creative team use their collective technical prowess to produce an origin story for the supernatural parallel dimension known as the Upside Down. Read Rob Halliday’s detailed report, only in LSi!
From the West End, we look north to Edinburgh as Kate Lyon takes us behind the scenes of the latest production of Macbeth. A marriage of classic literature and contemporary staging, the 2024 version of the play sees it staged in vast, non-traditional warehouse-style spaces in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh and across the pond in Washington DC.
Also inside, Steve Moles learns how the opening ceremony of the AFC Asian Cup in Doha marked a breakthrough for live event staging. Plus, Phil Ward introduces two fresh players in the live sound landscape as he meets with the teams behind Fourier Audio and TT+ Audio. Additionally, inspired by LIVE’s recent survey on the subject, Sarah Rushton-Read explores some of the challenges currently facing the industry’s freelance workforce. We also catch up with Bring Me The Horizon’s touring crew and the team behind the Eden Project’s festive light shows.
It’s a busy time of year on the trade show circuit. As such, we bring you a look ahead to this month’s Prolight + Sound, along with a bumper round-up of news from last month’s ISE. Plus, Simon Allen reviews Yamaha’s latest digital console, the DM7, while Richard Cadena explores the subject of balanced power for audio.
